Introduction
To reduce the possibility of a rattle noise from the center seat belt retractor cover, the following field fix has been developed.

This repair is covered under the LEXUS Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
Please refer to the 2000 model year GS 400/300 Repair Manual, Volume 2, pages BO-121 through BO-132.
Disassembly
1. Remove the head rests from the rear seat.
2. Remove the lower portion of the rear seat by lifting firmly at the clips located at the front edge.
3. Remove the four 12 mm bolts from the upper portion of the rear seat.
4. Lift the flaps at the headrest locations. Remove the two 12 mm nuts.
5. Remove the trim from the floor to the C-pillar.
6. Remove the trim from the child restrain tie-downs.
7. Remove the child restraint tie-downs.
8. Remove the three clips at the forward edge of the Rear Package Tray.
9. Remove the Rear Package Tray.
10. Remove the Center Seat Belt Retractor Cover from the Rear Package Tray.
11. Add pieces of urethane sponge to the Center Seat Belt Retractor Cover as indicated in the diagrams.
Reassembly
Reassembly is in the reverse order of disassembly.
