Removal and Installation






REMOVAL
1. Place front wheels facing straight ahead.
2. Remove steering wheel pad. Service and Repair
3. Remove steering wheel. Service and Repair
4. Disconnect intermediate shaft. Service and Repair
5. Disconnect RH and LH tie rod ends.
6. Disconnect pressure feed tube.
Remove the union bolt and gasket.
7. Disconnect return tube.
Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets.
8. Disconnect Progressive Power Steering (PPS) solenoid connector.
9. SC400: Disconnect tube clamp.
Remove the bolt.
10. Remove bracket and grommet.
Remove the 2 bolts and nuts.
11. Remove power steering gear assembly.
Remove the 2 bolts and nuts.

INSTALLATION
1. Install power steering gear assembly.
Torque the two gear assembly set bolts and nuts.
Torque: 76 Nm (56 ft.lbs.).
2. Install bracket and grommet. Torque the two bolts and nuts.
Torque: 76 Nm (56 ft.lbs.).
3. SC400: Connect tube clamp.
Tighten the bolt.
4. Connect Progressive Power Steering (PPS) solenoid connector.
5. Connect return tube. Torque the union bolt with a new gasket on each side of the tube.
Torque: 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.)
6. Connect pressure tube. Torque the union bolt with a new gasket.
Torque: 49 Nm (36 ft.lbs.)
7. Connect right and left hand tie rod ends.
a. Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
b. Install the cotter pin and nut.
Torque: 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.).
8. Connect intermediate shaft.





a. Align the matchmarks on the intermediate shaft and control valve shaft.
b. Torque bolt B.
Torque: 35 Nm (26 ft lbs.).
c. Torque bolt A.
Torque: 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
9. Position front wheels facing straight ahead.

HINT: Do it with the front of the vehicle jacked up.

10. Center spiral cable.
a. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
b. Turn the spiral cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn the cable.





c. Then rotate the spiral cable clockwise about three turns to align the red mark.

HINT: The spiral cable will rotate about three turns to either left or right of the center.

11. Install steering wheel.
a. Align the matchmarks on the wheel and steering column main shaft.
b. Temporarily tighten the wheel set nut.
c. Connect the connector.
12. Bleed power steering system.
13. Check steering wheel center point.
14. Torque the steering wheel set nut.
Torque: 35 Nm (26 ft.lbs.).
15. Install steering wheel pad.

NOTICE:
- Make sure the wheel pad is installed to the specified torque.
- If the wheel pad has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the wheel pad with a new one.
- When installing the wheel pad, take care that the wiring does not interfere with other parts and is not pinched between other parts.

a. Connect the airbag connector.





b. Install the pad after confirming that the circumference groove of the torx screws is caught on the screw case.
c. Using a torx socket wrench, tighten the four torx screws.
Torque: 9.0 Nm (80 inch lbs.).
16. Check front wheel alignment.
