Introduction
Some 1999 MY ES 300 vehicles may exhibit an incorrect VSC Light "ON" and VSC OFF Light "ON" at the same time. The cause of this condition may be the Air Fuel Ratio Sensor. An improved Air Fuel Ratio Sensor has been developed to correct this problem.

Applicable Warranty*:

This repair is covered under the Lexus Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

NOTE: Please enter DTC Code (if present) and "VSC Light 'ON' and VSC OFF Light 'ON"' in the Condition/Cause/Remedy Section when applying for Warranty Reimbursement.

Repair Procedure

1. Verify that the VSC Light and the VSC OFF Light are "ON" at the same time.

2. Check for DTC Codes in the ABS & TRAC & VSC ECU.

^ If no DTC Codes are present, go to step 3.

^ If DTC Codes are present, perform diagnostic procedures as described in the Repair Manual.

3. Check for DTC Codes in the ECM.

^ If no DIC Codes are present, go to step 4.

^ If DTC Codes are present, perform diagnostic procedures as described in the Repair Manual.

4. Check and replace the Air Fuel Ratio Sensor.

NOTE: If the Exhaust Manifold threads are damaged during the removal of the sensor, they can be properly repaired by the use of a M18 x 1.5 Tap.
