Introduction
To reduce a creaking/popping noise from the moonroof area, the following two production changes have been made: Felt pieces have been added to the sliding Roof Garnish and the Sliding Roof Glass Sub-Assembly.

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Lexus Basic Warranty. This warranty in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Refer to the 1999 GS 400/300 Repair Manual Page BO-77 to remove sliding roof garnishes.
NOTE:
3M Anti-Squeak and Rattle Tape may be used instead of felt.
1. Tape felt washer (15 mm x 25 mm x 0.5 mm; hole diameter 8 mm; 15 mm slit) to locations # 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 of the Sliding Glass Roof Assembly. Repeat for opposite side.
2. Tape 2 pieces of felt (5 mm x 25 mm x 0.5 mm) to location # 6 of the Sliding Glass Roof Assembly. Repeat for opposite side.
3. Tape 1 piece of felt washer (10 mm x 20 mm x 0.5 mm; 15 mm slit) to locations # 7 and # 8 of the Sliding Glass Roof Assembly.
4. Apply 1 piece of felt (7 mm x 28 mm x 0.5 mm; 22 mm slit) to location A-A of the Sliding Roof Garnish Front. Repeat for opposite side.
5. Apply felt (5 mm x 140 mm x 0.5 mm) to the Sliding Roof Garnish RH/LH as indicated in illustration # 3.
