Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

COMPONENTS

REMOVAL

CAUTION: Do not smoke or work near an open flame when working on the fuel pump.

1. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR MAT
2. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM COVER

3. REMOVE 4 FUEL TANK MOUNTING BOLTS

4. DISCONNECT FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR
5. REMOVE SEAT CUSHION AND BACK

6. REMOVE PARTITION COVER
Using a scraper, pry out the partition cover.

7. REMOVE FUEL PUMP AND SUCTION TUBE ASSEMBLY FROM FUEL TANK




a. Remove the 8 bolts, and disconnect the fuel pump set plate from the fuel tank.




b. Remove the 3 nuts, and disconnect the fuel pump bracket from the fuel tank.
c. Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel pump bracket, and pull out the fuel pump and suction tube assembly.
d. Remove the gasket from the fuel pump set plate.

8. DISCONNECT LEAD CONNECTOR FROM FUEL PUMP

9. REMOVE FUEL PUMP FROM FUEL PUMP BRACKET




a. Remove the screw, and disconnect the ground strap from the fuel pump earth clamp.




b. Pull out the lower side of the fuel pump from the fuel pump bracket.
c. Remove the rubber cushion from the fuel pump.
d. Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel pump, and remove the fuel pump.
e. Remove the screw and fuel pump earth clamp.

10. REMOVE FUEL PUMP FILTER FROM FUEL PUMP




a. Using a small screwdriver, remove the clip.
b. Pull out the fuel pump filter.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL FUEL PUMP FILTER TO FUEL PUMP
Install the fuel pump filter with a new clip.

2. INSTALL FUEL PUMP TO FUEL PUMP BRACKET
a. Install the fuel pump earth clamp to the fuel pump with the screw.
b. Connect the fuel hose to the outlet port of the fuel pump.
c. Install the rubber cushion to the fuel pump.




d. Install the fuel pump by pushing the lower side of the fuel pump.




e. Connect the ground strap to the fuel pump earth clamp with the screw.

3. CONNECT LEAD CONNECTOR TO FUEL PUMP

4. INSTALL FUEL PUMP AND SUCTION TUBE ASSEMBLY TO FUEL TANK




a. Install a new gasket to the fuel pump set plate.
b. Insert the fuel pump and suction tube assembly into the fuel tank.
c. Connect the fuel hose to the fuel pump bracket, and install the fuel pump bracket to the fuel tank.

Torque: 5.5 Nm (55 kg.cm, 48 in.lb)




d. Install the fuel pump set plate with the 8 bolts.

Torque: 3.5 Nm (35 kg.cm, 31 in.lb)

5. INSTALL PARTITION COVER
6. INSTALL SEAT BACK AND CUSHION




7. CONNECT FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR

8. INSTALL 4 FUEL TANK MOUNTING BOLTS

Torque: 25 Nm (250 kg.cm, 18 ft.lb)

9. INSTALL LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM COVER
10. INSTALL LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR MAT
