Windshield: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. REMOVE ASSIST GRIPS
2. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISHES
3. REMOVE CENTER VISOR
4. REMOVE SUN VISORS AND HOLDERS
5. REMOVE INTERIOR LIGHT




6. REMOVE INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR
Remove the screw and inner rear view mirror.

7. REMOVE HOOD
8. REMOVE SIDE MOULDINGS
9. REMOVE WIPER ARMS




10. REMOVE HOOD TO COWL TOP SEAL
Using a screwdriver, remove the 11 clips and hood to cowl top seal.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.




11. REMOVE RH COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER
a. Using a clip remover, remove the 2 clips.
b. Lift up the front part of the RH cowl top ventilator louver and pull the louver off.




12. REMOVE LH COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER
a. Using a clip remover, remove the 2 clips.
b. Lift up the front part of the LH cowl top ventilator louver and pull the louver off.




13. REMOVE UPPER MOULDING
a. Pass the top of a scraper between the body and moulding.

HINT: Tape the scraper tip before use.

b. Pry up the scraper to loosen the moulding from the claws of the clips and the retainer.
c. Remove the moulding.




14. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS
a. Push piano wire through from the interior.
b. Tie both wire ends to a wooden block or similar object.

HINT: Apply protective tape to the outer surface to keep the surface from being scratched.






NOTE: When separating the glass, take care not to damage the paint and interior and exterior ornaments. To prevent scratching the safety pad when removing the windshield, place a plastic sheet between the piano wire and safety pad.

c. Cut the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around it.
d. Remove the glass.

NOTE: Leave as much of the adhesive on the body as possible when cutting off the glass.

INSTALLATION




1. CLEAN AND SHAPE CONTACT SURFACE OF BODY
a. Using a knife, cut away any rough areas on the body.

HINT: Leave as much of the adhesive on the body as possible.

b. Clean the cutting surface of the adhesive with a piece of shop rag saturated in cleaner.

HINT: Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the body.




2. REPLACE FASTENER
a. Remove the damaged fastener.
b. Cut off the old adhesive around the fastener installation area.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the body.

c. Clean the installation area.
d. Install a new fastener onto the body.

HINT: Before installing, peel off the backing paper at the fastener. Install the fastener with the atmospheric temperature 20 - 40 degrees C (68 - 104 degrees F)




3. CLEAN REMOVED GLASS
a. Using a scraper, remove the adhesive sticking to the glass.
b. Clean the glass with cleaner.

NOTE: Do not touch the glass after cleaning it.




4. IF NECESSARY, REPLACE NO. 1 STOPPERS
a. Remove the old stoppers.
b. Install new stoppers to the body marks as shown.




5. IF NECESSARY, REPLACE AND ADJUST RETAINERS

HINT: If replacing the retainer, adjust the retainer by the following method.

a. Remove the old retainers.
b. Install new retainers.
c. Place the windshield glass to the body.




d. If the clearance is not as wide, slide the retainer part to adjust the length of retainer.




e. Install the retainers.




6. POSITION GLASS
a. Position glass in correct position.
b. Check that all contacting parts of the glass rim are perfectly even and do not make contact with the fastener.
c. Position reference marks between the glass and body.
d. Remove the glass.




7. CLEAN CONTACT SURFACE OF GLASS
Using a cleaner, clean the contact surface black-colored area around the entire glass rim.

NOTE: Do not touch the glass face after cleaning it.




8. INSTALL DAMS
a. Apply double-stick tape at a point as shown.
b. Position the dams on the double-stick tape.

NOTE: Do not touch the glass face after cleaning it.




9. COAT CONTACT SURFACE OF BODY WITH PRIMER "M"
Using a brush, coat the contact surface on the body with Primer "M".

NOTE:
- Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Do not coat Primer M to the adhesive.
- Do not keep any of the opened Primer M for later use.




10. COAT CONTACT SURFACE OF GLASS WITH PRIMER "G"
a. Using a brush or sponge, coat the edge of the glass and the contact surface with Primer G.
b. When the primer is coated wrongly to the area other than the specified, wipe it off with a clean shop rag before the primer dries.

NOTE:
- Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Do not keep any of the opened Primer G for later use.

11. APPLY ADHESIVE
a. Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle.

Part No. 08850-00801 or equivalent






HINT: After cutting off the tip, use all adhesive within the time described in the table.

b. Load the cartridge into the sealer gun.




c. Coat the glass with adhesive as shown.

Adhesive height:
If adhesive remains on body
3.5 - 5.0 mm (0.138 - 0.197 in.)

If no adhesive remains on body
8.0 - 10.0 mm (0.315 - 0.394 in.)




12. INSTALL GLASS
a. Position the glass so that the reference marks are lined up, and press in gently along the rim.
b. Using a spatula, apply adhesive on the glass rim.




c. Use a scraper to remove any excess or protruding adhesive.

d. Hold the windshield glass in place secure with a protective tape or equivalent until the adhesive hardened.






NOTE: Take care not to to drive the vehicle during the time described in the table.

13. INSPECT FOR LEAKS AND REPAIR
a. Conduct a leak test after the hardening time has elapsed.
b. Seal any leak with auto glass sealer.

Part No. 08850-00801 or equivalent.




14. ADJUST CLIPS INTO UPPER MOULDING
Install the clip to the appropriate place on the moulding.

a: 75.7 mm (2.980 in.)
b: 71.0 mm (2.795 in.)
c: 109.1 mm (4.295 in.)
d: 110.0 mm (4.331 in.)
e: 110.0 mm (4.331 in.)




15. APPLY ADHESIVE AT NEW CLIP INSTALLATION AREA
a. When the clip engaged with the moulding is removed, cut out the old adhesive around the clip installation area.

NOTE: Do not damage the body and fastener.

b. Apply adhesive at the clip installation area so water does not collect there.

Part No. 08850-00801 or equivalent




16. INSTALL UPPER MOULDING
a. Position the moulding onto the body.
b. Tap the moulding with your hand to fasten the clips at the glass edge. At the same time, install the fastener by tapping the clips by hand.
c. Press the side edge of the moulding to install it.

17. INSTALL LH COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER
18. INSTALL RH COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER
19. INSTALL HOOD TO COWL TOP SEAL
20. INSTALL WIPER ARMS
a. Operate the wipers once and turn the wiper switch OFF.
b. Install the wiper arms and tighten nuts by hand.




c. Adjust the installation position of the wiper arms to the position shown in the illustration.

A: 30 - 45 mm (1.18 - 1.77 in.)
B: 29 - 44 mm (1.14 - 1.73 in.)

d. Torque the nuts.

Torque: 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)

21. INSTALL SIDE MOULDING
22. INSTALL HOOD

Torque: 22 N.m (225 kgf.cm, 16 ft.lbf)

23. INSTALL INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR
24. INSTALL INTERIOR LIGHT
25. INSTALL SUN VISORS AND HOLDERS
26. INSTALL CENTER VISOR
27. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISHES
