Introduction
During the rear strut assembly process, the coil spring upper insulator may have become deformed or unseated causing a metal to metal interference between the upper end of the coil spring and the spring upper support (suspension support). This interference may result in a clicking noise from the rear suspension when driving over bumps.

^ 2001 - 2002 model year GS 4301300 vehicles produced before the VINs shown below.

This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
1. Remove the rear strut assembly and separate the rear coil spring(s) from the strut assembly following the Repair Manual procedures.
2. Visually check the coil spring upper insulator (location shown in Figure 1).
3. If the upper insulator shows signs of damage, it should be replaced.
4. Reassemble the strut assembly. Verify the spring is properly seated and the insulator is not damaged prior to installing the strut assembly in the vehicle.
5. Reinstall the rear strut assembly and verify rear suspension alignment.
