COLLISION REPAIR INFORMATIONCRIB115
TITLE: SRS REPAIR PRECAUTIONS
SECTION: ELECTRICAL BULLETIN #115
MODELS: ALL TOYOTA/LEXUS
DATE: NOVEMBER 2001
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) components are designed to operate as manufactured, and no attempt should be made to alter the original design. Remember that authorization from the NHTSA must be received in order to install a Toyota manual on/off switch.
When not deployed, SRS components should be diagnosed and inspected using the model specific procedures found in the Supplemental Restraint System section of the vehicle Repair Manual. When deployed, follow model specific SRS component replacement procedures.
Do not attempt to refinish or repair any SRS driver's airbag, passenger airbag, side airbag, or side-curtain airbag or parts. Repairing or refinishing any of these parts may alter the original design and may ultimately change deployment characteristics of these units. Damaged units should always be replaced with new parts.
Always refer to model specific Repair Manuals for SRS information on the following topics:
^ System Operation and precautions
^ Component locations
^ Handling recommendations
^ Connector disconnect procedures
^ Diagnostic procedures
^ Component replacement procedures
^ Collateral deployment effect
^ Wire harness damage
