Exterior Moulding / Trim: Service and Repair

OUT SIDE MOULDING

REPLACEMENT

HINT:

- Installation is in the reverse order of removal. But the installation is indicated only when it has a point.
- In the RH side, work in the same procedure as in the LH side.

1. REMOVE OUT SIDE MOULDING
a. Using a heat light, heat the body moulding to 40 - 60 degrees C (104 - 140 degrees F)

NOTE: Do not heat moulding excessively.

b. Tie both piano wire ends to a wooden block or a similar object.




c. Scrape the adhesive tape off by pulling the piano wire as shown in the illustration.

NOTE:
- If reusing the moulding, take care not to damage the moulding.
- Do not damage the body.




2. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OUTSIDE MOULDING LOWER LH
a. Remove the outside moulding clip No.2.




b. Using a drill of less than dia 4 mm (0.16 in.)
c. Gently and vertically place the drill tip onto the rivet, and cut the rivet flanges.

NOTE:
- Prizing the hole with a drill can lead to damage to the rivet hole or the drill itself.
- Be careful when undertaking this task as the cut rivet is hot.
- Even if flange is taken off, continue drilling and push cut remaining fragment with the drill.

e. Remove the front door outside moulding lower from the door panel.




3. REMOVE REAR DOOR OUTSIDE MOULDING LOWER LH
a. Remove the outside moulding clip No. 2.
b. Using a drill of less than dia 4 mm (0.16 in.)
c. Gently and vertically place the drill tip onto the rivet, and cut the rivet flanges.

NOTE:
- Prizing the hole with a drill can lead to damage to the rivet hole or the drill itself.
- Be careful when undertaking this task as the cut rivet is hot.

d. Even if flange is taken off, continue drilling and push cut remaining fragment with the drill.
e. Remove the rear door outside moulding lower from the door panel.

4. INSTALL FRONT DOOR OUTSIDE MOULDING LOWER LH
a. Engage the front door outside moulding lower with door panel.




b. Using a riveter, install the door panel with new water protection revets.

NOTE: The rivet is not positioned perpendicularly.

5. INSTALL REAR DOOR OUTSIDE MOULDING LOWER LH
a. Engage the rear door outside moulding lower with door panel.




b. Using a riveter, install the door panel with new water protection revets.

NOTE: The rivet is not positioned perpendicularly.

6. INSTALL OUT SIDE MOULDING
a. Using a heat light, heat the body mounting surface to 40 - 60 degrees C (104 - 140 degrees F)

NOTE: Do not heat body excessively.

b. Remove the protective tape from the body.
c. Wipe off stains with cleaner.
d. Clean the moulding if reusing the moulding.
1. Using a heat light, heat the body moulding to 20 - 30 degrees C (68 - 86 degrees F)

NOTE: Do not heat body excessively.

2. Remove the adhesive tape from the moulding.
3. Wipe off stains with cleaner.
4. Apply new adhesive tape to the moulding as shown in the illustration.




e. Using a heat light, heat the body and moulding.

HINT:
- Body: 40 - 60 degrees C (104 - 140 degrees F)
- Moulding: 20 - 30 degrees C (68 - 86 degrees F)

NOTE: Do not heat body excessively.




f. Lift the moulding release sheet from the face moulding.

NOTE:
- When the moulding release sheet is removed, take care that no dirt or no dust can get onto the uncoated area.
- Do not apply excessive force onto the moulding, but steady pressure with your thumbs.
