ECM RESET MEMORY FUNCTION


Whenever an automatic transmission is replaced, overhauled or individual components are replaced, use this procedure to erase Engine Control Module (ECM, SAE term: Powertrain Control Module, PCM) "Learned Values" and prevent subsequent driveability complaints.

CAUTION:
Failure to follow the following procedure may lengthen the time to re-adjust the "Learned Values," potentially resulting in driveability complaints.


APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 1999 - 2003
model year RX 300 and ES 300 vehicles with Electronically Controlled Transmissions refer to Reset Procedure 1.
- 2004 model year RX 330 vehicles with Electronically Controlled Transmissions refer to Reset Procedure 1.
- 1998 - 2003 model year LS 430/400, IS 300, LX 470, GS 430/400/300 and SC 430/400/300 vehicles with Electronically Controlled Transmissions,refer to Reset Procedure 2.
- 2001 - 2003 model year IS 300 vehicles with Electronically Controlled Transmissions refer to Reset Procedure 2.







REQUIRED TOOLS & MATERIAL:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Reset Procedure 1
1. Connect the Lexus Diagnostic Tester to the vehicle.







2. Reset the ECM (PCM). Refer to the procedures.
3. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperatures before test driving.
4. Perform a thorough test drive with several accelerations from a stop with "light throttle" application until proper transmission shifting is verified.

Reset Procedure 2
1. Record radio station presets and No. 1 driver's seat memory position.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes.

NOTE:
Record presets before disconnecting battery cable.


3. Reconnect battery cable and reset radio presets and No. 1 driving position seat memory.
4. If necessary, perform the following operations:
- Initialize moon roof
- Initialize power windows
- Calibrate compass

For more detailed information on performing these operations, refer to TIS for the applicable TSIB and/or repair procedures.

5. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperatures before test driving.
6. Perform a thorough test drive with several accelerations from a stop with "light throttle" application until proper transmission shifting is verified.
