Ignition Timing: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION1. REMOVE V-BANK COVER AND ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
2. WARM UP ENGINE
Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.
3. When using LEXUS hand-held tester or OBDII scan tool:
INSPECT IGNITION TIMING
a. Connect a LEXUS hand-held tester or OBDII scan tool to the DLC3.
b. Please refer to the LEXUS hand-held tester or OBDII scan tool operator's manual for further details.
c. Start the engine at idle.
d. Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.
Ignition timing: 8 - 12° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position)
e. Disconnect a LEXUS hand-held tester or OBDII scan tool from the DLC3.
4. When not using LEXUS hand-held tester or OBDII scan tool:
INSPECT IGNITION TIMING
a. Using SST, connect tachometer prove to terminal TAC of the DLC3.

b. Connect the tester probe of a timing light to the yellow lead wire of the ignition coil connector for No.1 cylinder.
c. Using SST, connect terminals TC and CG of the DLC3.

d. Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.
Ignition timing: 8 - 12° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position)
e. Remove the SST from the DLC3.

f. Disconnect the timing light from the engine.
g. Disconnect the tachometer from the DLC3.
5. REINSTALL V-BANK COVER AND ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
