Introduction

When installing the Lexus "Nokia" Integrated Mobile Phone System in 2001 - 2003 model year LS 430 vehicles equipped with Lexus Link and/or Lexus Navigation, some customers may complain about a buzz noise on the landline side during a "hands-free" call. A new microphone has been developed to address this concern.

NOTE:
Some LS 430 vehicles already have the improved microphone. Please refer to the inspection procedure to determine if the microphone needs to be replaced.

Applicable Vehicles
^ 2001 - 2003 model year LS 430 vehicles equipped with Lexus Link and/or Lexus Navigation*.

*Only when installing the Lexus "Nokia" Integrated Mobile Phone System.

Applicable warranty*

This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.





Operation Flow Chart

Inspection Procedure

1. Remove the Overhead Module.





A. Use a screwdriver to remove the map light lens as shown in Figure 1.

NOTE:
Tape the screwdriver tip before removing the lens to avoid possible damage to the overhead module.

B. Remove the four screws and lower the overhead module as shown in Figure 1.

C. Disconnect the 32 pin overhead module connector.

2. Check the Microphone.





A. The new microphone has the part number and an arrow printed on each side of the microphone, as shown in Figure 2.

a. If the microphone is the previous part number (no part number or arrow), then replace the microphone (see Removal and Installation Procedures).

b. If the microphone is the new part number (printed part number and arrow) then replacement is not necessary. Reinstall the overhead module.

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the Previous Microphone.





A. Remove the tape.





B. Disconnect the connector of the microphone from the microphone amplifier.

C. Unfasten the microphone wire harness and guide it through the hole and guide.





D. Remove the screw, the bracket and the microphone.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the New Microphone.





A. Position the new microphone on the passenger side of the overhead console between the two projection tabs, as shown in Figure 6.





B. Secure the microphone using the existing bracket and screw as shown in Figure 7.

C. Route the new microphone wire through the hole as shown in Figure 3 on previous page.





D. Loop the excess wire and place under the acrylic board as shown in Figure 8.

E. Connect the microphone connector to the microphone amplifier as shown in Figure 3.





F. Secure the microphone wire with tape as shown in Figure 9.

2. Reinstall the Overhead Module.
