Introduction
The heater control panel base sub-assembly can now be replaced without having to replace the complete Air Conditioner Control Assembly. This bulletin provides procedures for this repair.

Applicable Vehicles

^ 2002 - 2004 model year SC 430 vehicles.

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.





Components

Repair Procedure

CAUTION:

^ Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least 90 seconds BEFORE performing work.

^ When disassembling air conditioner control assembly, measures should be taken to prevent static electricity from damaging the system.





1. Remove Air Conditioner Control Assembly.

A. Pull the air conditioner control assembly towards the rear of the vehicle and disengage the 6 clip fittings.

B. Disconnect the 3 connectors and remove the air conditioner control assembly.





2. Remove Console Upper Panel Garnish Front.

A. Remove the 2 screws.

B. Disengage the 2 claw fittings and remove the console upper panel garnish from the air conditioner control assembly.





3. Remove Heater Control Housing.

A. Remove the 6 screws and disengage the 4 claw fittings. Then separate the heater control housing.





B. Disconnect the 2 cooler wires No. 1 and remove the heater control housing.





4. Remove Cooler Wire No. 1 (w/Lexus Navigation System).

A. Disconnect the cooler wire No. 1 from the air conditioner panel.





5. Remove Heater Control Base Sub-assembly.

A. Remove the 2 screws.





B. Using a thin flathead screwdriver with the tip taped up with protective tape, disengage the 7 claw fittings in the order shown in the illustration.

HINT:
Bend the film (Black) forward to insert the flathead screwdriver from underneath the base into claw fittings (4) and (7) as shown in the illustration and then disengage these fittings.





C. With all the claw fittings disengaged, face the heater control base upward as shown in the illustration.





D. Slowly remove the heater control base.

NOTE:
If the heater control base is removed while facing down, the control knob may fall off. Be sure to install the heater control knob in the correct direction if it falls off.

6. Remove Multi-display Junction Block (w/Lexus Navigation System).





A. Remove the 2 screws and the multi-display junction block from the old panel.





7. Install Multi-display Junction Block (w/Lexus Navigation System).

A. Install the multi-display junction block with the 2 screws onto the new panel.





8. Install Heater Control Base Sub-assembly.

A. Engage the 7 claw fittings and install the heater control base on the control switch assembly.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the display.





HINT:
Push the 2 claw fittings shown in the illustration.





B. Install the 2 screws.





9. Install Cooler Wire No. 1 (w/Lexus Navigation System).

A. Connect the cooler wire No. 1 to the air conditioner panel.





10. Install Heater Control Housing.

A. Connect the 2 cooler wires No. 1 to the heater control housing.

B. Push on the locking parts of the connectors to secure the cooler wires No. 1.





C. Engage the 4 claw fittings and install the heater control housing with the 6 screws.





11. Reinstall Air Conditioner Control Assembly.

A. Reinstall air conditioner control assembly by engaging the 6 clip fittings.

12. Function Test Unit to Confirm Switch Operation.
