On some 2002 - 2004 model year SC 430 vehicles, the Accessory Drive Belt (V-Rib Belt) may make a "squealing" or "chirping" sound under certain conditions when the engine is first started. An updated V-Rib Belt has been developed to improve the condition.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2002 - 2004 model year SC 430 vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Remove air cleaner Inlet No. 1.
2. Remove accessory drive V-Rib Belt.
A. Loosen the belt tension by turning the belt tensioner counterclockwise, and remove the V-Rib Belt.

NOTE:
The tensioner pulley has a left-hand thread.


3. Inspect all pulleys, idlers, and the tensioner for misalignment or positioning at a different angle from the other drive belt components. If a misaligned component is found, adjust as needed. Otherwise, belt noise may reoccur with the new belt.






4. Install new accessory drive V-Rib Belt.
A. Place the new V-Rib Belt in position except for Idler Pulley No. 2, as shown.
B. Loosen the V-Rib Belt by turning the belt tensioner counterclockwise.
C. Place the V-Rib Belt in position for Idler Pulley No. 2.






D. After the new V-Rib Belt has been installed, check that the mark in the image is within range "B" as shown.
