Interior - Squeaking Noise From Seat Track Area

Introduction
Some customers may experience a squeak noise due to contact between the seat track locating pin(s) and the vehicle body on the 2004 model year ES 330. The following procedure outlines how to correct this condition.

^ 2004 model year ES 330 vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

CAUTION:

^ Wear safety gloves, because the cutting surface of the seatback frame and seat adjuster may injure your hand.

^ Work must be started more than 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery. (The SRS is equipped with a back-up power source. If work is started within 90 seconds from disconnecting the negative (-) terminal cable of the battery, the SRS may deploy.)

^ The yaw rate sensor is installed under the front seat RH.
Be careful not to step on the yaw rate sensor after the seat has been removed.

HINT:

^ The installation is in the reverse order of the removal. However, when there is a special point concerning the installation, it is indicated.

^ Use the same procedures on the RH side as on the LH side.

^ When removing/installing and overhauling the passenger seat, perform the Occupancy Classification System Zero Point Calibration. (Please refer to TSIB No. EL007-03, "Occupancy Classification System Calibration (DTC B1150 & B1650).")

1. Disconnect Battery Negative Terminal.





2. Remove Seat Track Bracket Cover Outer Front LH.

A. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 3 claws and remove the bracket cover.

HINT:
Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

3. Remove Seat Track Bracket Cover Inner Front LH.

A. Use the same procedures described for outer side.





4. Remove Front Seat Track Cover LH Rear Inner.

A. Using the taped screwdriver, disengage the 3 claws and remove the bracket cover.





5. Remove Front Seat Track Cover LH Rear Outer.

A. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 claws and remove the track cover.

6. Remove Front Seat Assembly LH.

A. Remove the 4 bolts.

B. Disconnect the connectors and then remove the front seat assembly LH.

7. Repeat Steps 1-6 for the RH Seat.

8. With LH Seat Removed From the Vehicle, Tilt Seat Back to Expose Front Locating Pins.





9. Cut Off the 2 Locating Pins, Leaving 2 mm or Less on the Seat Rail/Track as Shown.

A. Coat the exposed metal on the LH seat track with paint primer or similar product to prevent rust.

10. Remove any Excess Metal Shavings From the LH Seat or Surrounding Areas.

11. Repeat Steps 8-10 for the RH Seat.

12. Install Front Seat Assembly LH.

A. Place the seat in the cabin.

B. Connect the connectors under the seat.

C. Tighten the 2 bolts on the front side of the seat.

Torque: 36.8 N.m (375 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf)

D. Tighten the 2 bolts on the rear side of the seat.

Torque: 36.8 N.m (375 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf)

E. Install the 4 seat track covers.

13. Repeat Step 12 for the RH Front Seat.

14. Connect Battery Negative Terminal.

15. Inspect Function of Power Seat Operation.

16. Check Seat Heater Operation (w/Seat Heater).

17. Initialize Front Passenger Occupancy Classification System.

18. Inspect SRS Warning Light per TSIB No. EL007-03.
