Introduction
The 2004 model year ES 330 and RX 330 are equipped with an Occupancy Classification System that will disable the passenger front and side airbags when the passenger seat sensors detect a weight that is less than approximately 80 lbs (36 kg).
After finding SRS B1650 code on ES 330 vehicles, or SRS B1150 on RX 330 vehicles, the next step is to check codes in the OCCUPANT DETECT menu on the Diagnostic Tester. Take necessary steps to diagnose the root cause of the OCS DTC code BEFORE initializing the system.
Applicable Vehicles
^ 2004 model year ES 330 and RX 330 vehicles.
Service Information
In the event of an Occupancy Classification System malfunction, both the SRS" and Airbag Off" lights will illuminate.
Diagnostic Tester support for this system includes:
^ DTC Check
^ Data List
^ Zero Point Calibration
^ Sensitivity Check
IMPORTANT SERVICE NOTE:
The "Zero Point Calibration" and "Sensitivity Check" for the Occupancy
Classification System MUST be performed if:
^ The passenger seat has been removed from the vehicle.
^ The vehicle has been in a collision.
^ The Occupancy Classification ECU has been replaced.
^ For any reason, the indicated weight on the passenger seat (using the Lexus Diagnostic Tester) is not within 7 lbs (3.2 kg) of the actual weight on the seat.
^ Attempting to clear codes during diagnosis or after a repair.
("Zero point calibration" must be performed first in order to properly clear codes.)
Before performing "Zero Point Calibration" and "Sensitivity Check" verify the following:
^ The seatback pocket is empty.
