CALIBRATION IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Check for the Authorized Modification Label affixed to the vehicle in the location shown in Figure 1. Confirm that the ECM (PCM) calibration has been updated. If not latest ECM (PCM) calibration - go to step 2.
2. Connect the Diagnostic Tester to the vehicle and select CURRENT ECU CAL from the ECU REPROGRAM MAIN MENU. Determine the vehicle's current ECU calibration (see Figure 2).
- The sample screen prints seen are the 10.2a software version, and may differ from subsequent software versions.
NOTE:
- If Calibration ID matches "Previous Calibration ID" as shown in Calibration Identification Chart, proceed with flash reprogramming.
- If Calibration ID matches "New Calibration ID" as shown in Calibration Identification Chart, this vehicle has already been programmed. Refer to Repair Manual for diagnosis.
3. If ECU calibration ID is not the same as the "New Calibration ID" listed previously, proceed to Flash Reprogram ECM (PCM).
4. Perform the following procedures to check the O2 sensor circuit.
a) Complete the "READINESS MONITOR DRIVE PATTERN" to confirm if there is a failure in the O2 circuit. Refer to the following section of the appropriate Repair Manual.
Section: Diagnostics
Subsection: SFI System; Readiness Monitor Drive Pattern; Heated Oxygen Sensor
b) Using the TDT, confirm if "complete" is shown on the "Monitor Status" screen. If "complete" is displayed, go to c). If not, perform a) again.
c) Using the TDT, confirm if DTC P0133/P0153 is displayed in the PENDING CODE or CURRENT CODE fields.
If DTC P0133/P0153 is displayed, there is failure in O2 sensor circuit. Perform the troubleshooting procedure according to the Repair Manual.
FLASH REPROGRAM ECU:
CAUTION:
When reprogramming LS 430, 10.2a production version (dated 12/11/03) or later MUST be used. Using any previous versions of software for reprogramming may result in irreparable damage to the ECU
NOTE:
If the "Check Engine light is ON when ignition is turned back on to begin the reprogramming process, a scan tool cable problem exists. Refer to TSB No. 0449 "ECU Flash Reprogramming Error Message."
1. Disconnect the radiator fan connectors, and connect a battery charger to the vehicle's battery. This will avoid voltage variations that can permanently damage the ECM (PCM) during the reprogramming process.
2. Follow the procedures outlined in TSB 0592, Ref. GI-03-005, "HOW TO DOWNLOAD TDT SOFTWARE VERSIONS AND CALIBRATION FILES" dated Feb 4, 2003 and flash the ECM with new "Main" and "Sub" calibration file updates.
3. Reconnect the radiator fan connectors, and disconnect the battery charger.
4. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature before test-driving.
5. Test drive vehicle to confirm proper vehicle operation.
6. Enter the required information on the Authorized Modifications Label and affix it to the vehicle at the location shown in Figure 1. The Authorized Modifications Label is available through the PDC, P/N-00451-00001-25.
7. Calibration update is complete.
