Subject:
CLEARING AFS DTC B2414 STEERING ANGLE SENSOR MALFUNCTION DURING PDS

Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) provides the proper headlight beam level for all driving conditions. This system moves the headlight beam left or right according to the turning angle of the steering wheel. The integration of this system and the automatic headlight leveling system provide excellent visibility at intersections and while driving on curved roads.

To minimize the battery discharge during transportation and storage, the D/C CUT fuse is removed at the assembly plant. Be sure to reinstall the fuse during Pre-Delivery Service (PDS).

NOTE:
Please refer to TSB No. GI-00-007, "D/C CUT Fuse Installation During PDS", dated September 24, 2000, for more information.

As a result of the removal of the D/C CUT fuse (20A), the power source to the steering angle sensor is cut off. When the ignition switch is turned ON with the D/C CUT fuse disconnected, the ECU detects a fail signal to a short in terminal B of the steering angle sensor causing the "AFS OFF" indicator light to blink.

When the D/C CUT fuse is reinstalled to its original location, the steering angle sensor will be operative and the "AFS OFF" indicator light goes off. However, the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) detected from the steering angle sensor is memorized in the ECU as a history DTC.

Please erase the DTC after the D/C CUT fuse is reinstalled during PDS at the dealership.

NOTE:
While the D/C CUT fuse is removed the AFS OFF indicator light will blink.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES: 2004 model year LS 430 vehicles.

REQUIRED SSTs:

Erasing Procedure::

1. As part of the normal PDS procedure, install the D/C CUT fuse (20A) to the correct position in the Fusible Link Block in the engine compartment with the Ignition Switch OFF.
(For more information on fuse installation, refer to TSB No. GI-00-007)
2. Turn the Ignition Switch to the ON position and check that the AFS OFF indicator light illuminates and then goes OFF.

NOTE:
If the "AFS OFF" indicator light remains ON or blinks, check for stored DTCs and the applicable condition according to the Repair Manual procedures found on ETAS.

3. Check for stored AFS DTCs using Diagnostic Tester.
a) Connect the Diagnostic Tester to DLC3.
b) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
c) Access the OBD/MOBD function and select the AFS menu (Refer to Screen Flow 1) check for DTCs being output.
d) View all stored AFS codes.

NOTE:
If any DTCs besides DTC B2414 are stored, diagnose the applicable condition according to the Repair Manual procedures found on ETAS.

4. From the AFS DTC check menu clear all AFS codes.
5. Disconnect the Diagnostic Tester from DLC3.
6. Turn Ignition Switch ON and confirm AFS indicator light illuminates and then goes OFF.

Using the diagnostic tester, follow the screen prompts outlined in steps A-H.

NOTE:
Steps B-E should be selected based on the vehicle options.
