Steering Lock Position Modification Procedure
1. Remove Instrument Panel Under Cover Sub-assembly No. 1.
A. Remove the 2 screws.
B. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the instrument panel under cover Sub-assembly No. 1.
C. Disconnect the connectors.
2. Lock Steering Wheel.
3. Put Mark on Steering Main Shaft Assembly.
A. Put the mark on the steering main shaft assembly as shown in the illustration.
4. Loosen Steering Intermediate Shaft Assembly No. 2 Set Bolt.
HINT:
If it is difficult to access the bolt, insert the smart key into the ignition switch and turn the steering wheel to change the position of the bolt head.
5. Release Steering Lock.
A. Insert the smart key, then release the steering lock.
6. Place Front Wheels Facing Straight Ahead.
7. Disconnect Negative Battery Terminal.
NOTE:
Work must be started after 90 seconds from the time the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery. (The supplemental restraint system is equipped with a back-up power source so that if work is started within 90 seconds of disconnecting the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, the SRS may deploy.)
8. Remove Steering Horn Button Assembly.
A. Remove the switch and volume case.
B. Remove steering wheel cover lower No. 2.
C. Using a torx socket wrench (T30), loosen the 2 torx screws until the groove along the screw circumference is caught on the screw case.
D. Pull out the horn button assembly from the steering wheel and disconnect the airbag connectors.
E. Disconnect the terminal.
CAUTION:
^ When placing the horn button assembly down, keep upper surface of the horn button assembly facing upward.
^ Never disassemble the horn button assembly.
NOTE:
When removing the horn button assembly, take care not to pull the airbag wire harness.
9. Remove Steering Wheel Assembly.
A. Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.
B. Using the SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.
^ SST P/N 09950-50013
(09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)
10. Lift Up Vehicle.
11. Remove Engine Under Cover No. 2.
A. Remove the 4 screws, 2 nuts and the engine under cover No. 2.
12. Loosen Steering Slide w/Shaft Yoke Sub-assembly Set Bolt.
HINT:
Be careful not to remove the set bolt.
13. Lower Vehicle.
14. Disconnect Steering Intermediate Shaft Assembly No. 2.
A. Remove the bolt and disconnect the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly No.2 from steering main shaft assembly.
15. Turn Steering Main Shaft Assembly.
A. Turn the steering main shaft assembly 90 degree so that the mark, put on at step 3, is positioned on the lower side of the vehicle.
B. Remove the smart key from ignition switch.
16. Connect Steering Intermediate Shaft Assembly No. 2.
A. Temporarily connect the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2 to the steering main shaft assembly with the bolt.
17. Check Steering Lock Operation.
A. Install the steering wheel.
B. Temporarily install the steering wheel set nut.
C. Connect the negative battery terminal.
D. Remove the smart key.
E. Check that the steering wheel locks when it is turned 90 degree from the center position.
F. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
18. Torque Steering Intermediate Shaft Assembly No. 2 Set Bolt. Torque: 35.3 N.m (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf)
HINT:
If it is difficult to access the bolt, insert the smart key into the ignition switch and turn the steering wheel to change the position of the bolt head.
19. Lift Up Vehicle.
20. Torque Steering Slide w/Shaft Yoke Sub-assembly Set Bolt.
Torque: 35.3 N.m (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf)
21. Install Engine Under Cover No. 2.
A. Install the engine under cover No. 2 with 4 screws and 2 nuts.
22. Lower Vehicle.
23. Place Front Wheels Facing Straight Ahead.
24. Torque Steering Wheel Assembly Set Nut.
Torque: 50 N.m (510 kgf.cm, 37 ft.lbf)
25. Install Steering Horn Button Assembly.
NOTE:
^ Never use airbag parts removed from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace with new ones.
^ Make sure the wheel pad is installed with the specified torque.
^ If the wheel pad is dropped or there are cracks, dents or other defects on the case or connector, replace the wheel pad with a new one.
^ When installing the wheel pad, take care so that the wiring does not interfere with other parts and they are not pinched between other parts.
A. Connect the terminal.
B. Install the horn button assembly to the steering wheel, then connect the airbag connectors.
C. Install the steering wheel pad after confirming that the circumference groove of the torx screws is caught on the screw case.
D. Using a torx socket wrench (T30), torque the 2 torx screws. Torque: 8.8 N.m (90 kgf.cm, 78 in.lbf)
E. Install the switch and volume case.
26. Install Instrument Panel Under Cover Sub-assembly No. 1.
A. Connect the connectors.
B. Install the instrument panel under cover sub-assembly with 2 screws.
27. Connect Negative Battery Terminal.
28. Inspect Horn Button.
