Brake Pedal Assy: Adjustments
BRAKE PEDAL SUB-ASSEMBLY ADJUSTMENT1. CHECK AND ADJUST BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT
a. Inspect brake pedal height.
Pedal height from asphalt sheet: 154.0 - 164.0 mm (6.063 - 6.457 inch)
b. Adjust brake pedal height.
1. Remove the instrument finish panel lower.
2. Disconnect the connector form the stop light switch.
3. Loosen the stop light switch lock nut and remove the stop light switch.
4. Loosen the clevis lock nut.
5. Adjust the pedal height by turning the pedal push rod.
6. Tighten the push rod lock nut.
Torque: 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft. lbs.)
7. Install the stop light switch.
8. Connect the connector to the stop light switch.
9. Push the brake pedal in 5 - 15 mm (0.20 - 0.59 inch), turn the stop light switch to lock the nut in the position where the stop light goes off.
10. After installation, push the brake pedal in 5 - 15 mm (0.20 - 0.59 inch), check that stop light lights up.
2. CHECK PEDAL FREE PLAY
a. Stop the engine and depress the brake pedal several times until there is no more vacuum left in the booster.
b. Push in the pedal until the beginning of the resistance is felt. Measure the distance, as shown.
Pedal freeplay: 0.2 - 2.0 mm (0.008 - 0.079 inch)
If incorrect, check the stop light switch clearance.
If the clearance is OK, the troubleshoot the brake system.
Stop light switch clearance: 0.5 - 2.4 mm (0.020 - 0.094 inch)
3. CHECK PEDAL RESERVE DISTANCE
a. Release the parking brake.
b. With the engine running, depress the pedal and measure the pedal reserve distance, as shown.
Pedal reserve distance from asphalt sheet at 196 N (20 kgf-cm, 44.1 lbs.): More than 100 mm (3.94 inch)
If incorrect, troubleshot the brake system.
