Initialization
INITIALIZATIONNOTE: When disconnecting the negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following system(s) after the cable is reconnected.
1. INITIALIZE SLIDING FUNCTION AND RECLINING FUNCTION OF POSITION CONTROL ECU
a. The position control ECU must be initialized under any of the following conditions. The initialization sets the absolute position of the power seat's sliding and reclining functions.
HINT:
Controlling the power seat's sliding and reclining functions together prevents the power seat from interfering with the rear seat during the power seat's sliding or reclining operation.
- The battery is disconnected.
- The D/C CUT fuse is replaced.
- The position control ECU is replaced.
- The power seat assembly is removed from the vehicle.
b. Initialize the sliding function and reclining function of the position control ECU as follows.
1. Reconnect the battery and use the sliding or reclining function with the front power seat switch to move the power seat to the foremost position (lock position). A buzzer should sound for 0.1 seconds.
2. Use another function (sliding or reclining) which was not used in step (1) to move the front power seat to the foremost position (lock position). A buzzer should sound for 0.5 seconds.
3. The position control ECU's initialization should be completed.
NOTE:
- If the initialization is not completed, the power seat's sliding and reclining functions cannot be controlled together.
- If the initialization is not completed, a buzzer should sound continuously at 0.45 seconds intervals while the power seat is sliding or reclining backwards.
- If the initialization is not completed, the position control ECU will not memorize any seat position.
2. CANCEL INITIALIZATION OF POSITION CONTROL ECU
HINT: When the power seat's sliding and reclining functions linked control does not work properly, the seat's operational area is restricted. In this case, cancel the initialization of the position control ECU so that the sliding and reclining functions can be operated differently.
a. Operate a front power seat switch to slide it to the foremost position or fully tilt forward the seatback. Continue to hold the switch for at least 10 seconds. As a result, cancellation of the position control ECU's initialization is completed.
HINT:
- If that the seat's operational area is still restricted after the cancellation, the motor is malfunctioning.
- In the case that the seat's operational area is not restricted any more after the cancellation, the seat adjuster assembly (pulse sensor) is malfunctioning.
NOTE: After the cancellation, slide the seat to the rear or recline the seatback. A buzzer sounds continuously in intervals of 0.45 seconds. If the initialization is performed again, a buzzer does not sound any more.
3. CALIBRATE COMPASS
NOTE: Do not place magnetic or metal objects near the magnetic field sensor.
HINT: These procedures described below are for vehicles without the LEXUS navigation system.
a. The location of magnetic north and true north differs depending on the location. Adjustment of the compass magnetism is required to correct possible compass deviations from true north.
b. Compass function calibration is necessary when: 1) purchasing a vehicle, 2) disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, 3) replacing a battery, 4) driving the vehicle out of the numbered set zone (see the zone map), and 5) placing magnetic or metal objects on or near the accessory meter (multi display).
HINT: If the accessory meter (multi display) is magnetized, the direction indication on the display blinks.
4. PERFORM CALIBRATION
CAUTION:
- Strictly observe posted speed limits, traffic laws and road conditions.
- Make sure no people are near the vehicle.
NOTE:
- Perform the circling calibration in a spacious area that does not have artificial magnetic influence. For example, an underground parking lot, an area under a steel tower and an area between tall buildings are not acceptable.
- When performing calibration, do not operate the air conditioner, power window, or any other electrical equipment.
- A compass may become magnetized when the vehicle is shipped by vessels or freight cars. Make sure to perform calibration properly. If calibration cannot be completed despite performing the circling calibration described below, the vehicle s magnetic field may be interfering with the calibration. Demagnetize the vehicle using a demagnetizer and perform calibration again.
a. Circling calibration
1. Select compass mode.
2. Press ODO/TRIP and RESET simultaneously and hold them for 3 seconds to enter the compass correction mode.
3. Press ODO/TRIP.
4. Drive the vehicle slowly in a circle once within 128 seconds.
HINT:
- After the circling calibration is completed, the correct direction is displayed automatically.
- If ODO/TRIP is pressed in step (4), compass correction mode is canceled.
- If the correct direction is not displayed after driving the vehicle as specified, change the vehicle location.
5. If not enough space is available to drive in a circle, perform the following:
- Drive the vehicle forward with the steering wheel fully turned to the right, and then drive in reverse with a steering wheel fully turned to the left.
- Repeat the pattern above 2 times within 128 seconds.
HINT:
- After the circling calibration is completed, the correct direction is displayed automatically.
- If ODO/TRIP is pressed in step (5), compass correction mode is canceled.
- If the correct direction is not displayed after driving the vehicle as specified, change the vehicle location.
b. Zone setting
1. Select compass mode.
2. Press ODO/TRIP and RESET simultaneously and hold them for 3 seconds to enter the compass correction mode.
3. Press RESET to select a higher zone number.
4. Press ODO/TRIP to end the compass correction mode.
