Engine Lubrication: Testing and Inspection
ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION1. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL
a. Warm up the engine, stop the engine and wait 5 minutes. The oil level should be between the dipstick's low level make and full level mark.
If low, check for leakage and add oil up to the full level mark.
NOTICE: Do not fill engine oil above the full level mark.
HINT: SAE 5W-30 is the recommended choice for this engine for good fuel economy and good starting in cold weather.
2. CHECK ENGINE OIL QUALITY
a. Check the oil for deterioration, water contamination, discoloring or thinning.
If the quality is visibly poor, change the oil.
Oil grade: API grade SL, Energy-Conserving or ILSAC, multi-grade engine oil is recommended. SAE 5W-30 is the best choice for this vehicle for good fuel economy and good starting in cold weather.
3. CHECK OIL PRESSURE
a. Remove the engine under cover.
b. Remove the oil pressure switch.
c. Install an oil pressure gauge.
d. Warm up the engine.
e. Measure the oil pressure.
Standard
If the oil pressure is not as specified, check the oil pump.
f. Remove the oil pressure gauge.
g. Reinstall the oil pressure switch.
1. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the oil pressure switch.
Adhesive: Part No. 08833-00080, THREE BOND 1344, LOCTITE 242 or equivalent.
2. Install the oil pressure switch.
Torque: 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.)
h. Check the engine oil leak.
i. Install the engine under cover.
