INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
REPLACEMENT
HINT:
- The installation procedures are the removal procedures in reverse order. However, only installation procedures requiring additional information are included.
1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT
HINT: Each type of bolt, screw and nut used during installation/removal of the instrument panel has an alphabetical code. These codes are used in the component illustrations and procedures.
2. SET RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY TO SHIPMENT MODE
a. Take out all CDs.
NOTE: If CD(s) cannot be taken out, do not attempt to take it out forcibly. Send the unit to a repair shop.
b. While simultaneously pressing the "SEEK UP" and "DISC" switches, turn the ignition switch to ACC.
HINT:
- The CD indicator lamp blinks during mode setting and it remains lit after the setting is completed.
- When the mode setting is completed, "SHIPMENT" appears on the display.
c. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
HINT: Disconnecting the cable from the battery.
3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
4. SET STEERING WHEEL TO CENTER
5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.2
6. REMOVE SWITCH & VOLUME CASE
7. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH MODULATOR
8. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
10. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY RH
a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 claws and 5 clips.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Disconnect the connector and remove the door scuff plate.
11. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY LH
HINT: Use the same procedures described for RH side.
12. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH
a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 3 claws and remove the trim cover.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
13. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH
HINT: Use the same procedures described for RH side.
14. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.1
a. Disconnect the hood lock control cable and connectors.
b. Remove the 3 bolts
15. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the connector.
b. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips and remove the panel.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
16. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER LOWER
17. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER UPPER
18. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY
19. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 4 screws
b. Disconnect the connectors and remove the combination meter.
20. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH REAR
a. Using a moulding remover, detach the 4 claws.
b. Disconnect the connectors and remove the panel garnish.
21. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY UPPER
a. Using a moulding remover, detach the 6 clips and 4 claws.
b. Disconnect the connectors and remove the panel garnish.
HINT: Move the shift lever to N and close the receptacle door.
22. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER CONTROL ASSEMBLY
a. Detach the 6 clips and remove the A/C control. Then disconnect the connectors.
23. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER CENTER
24. CONFIRM RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY SHIPMENT MODE SETTING
25. w/o LEXUS navigation system:
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD GARNISH SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Using a screwdriver, release the 4 claws on the instrument safety pad body from inside of the registers.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Using a moulding remover, detach the 5 clips and remove the safety pad garnish.
26. w/ LEXUS navigation system:
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD GARNISH SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Using a screwdriver, release the 2 claws on the instrument safety pad body from inside of the register.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Using a moulding remover, detach the 3 clips and remove the safety pad garnish.
27. w/ LEXUS navigation system:
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL GARNISH SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.2
a. Using a screwdriver, release the 2 claws on the instrument safety pad body from inside of the register.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Using a moulding remover, detach the 6 clips and remove the panel garnish.
28. w/ LEXUS navigation system:
REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY CENTER
29. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.2
a. Detach the 3 clips and 2 claws.
b. Disconnect the connector and remove the under cover.
30. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 bolts
b. Disconnect the connector and remove the glove compartment door.
31. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX CARPET
32. REMOVE BOX PANEL NO.3
a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 7 claws and remove the panel.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
33. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 bolts
b. Detach the 2 clips and remove the console box.
34. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.2
a. Remove the 2 bolts and tire pressure monitor receiver.
b. Remove the nut
35. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.1
a. Remove the 2 nuts
36. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH
a. Using a screwdriver, detach the claw and 2 clips. Then remove the pillar garnish.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
37. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH
HINT: Use the same procedures described for RH side.
38. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL RH
a. Using a moulding remover, detach the 6 claws and remove the panel.
39. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Fold back the front floor carpet.
b. Disconnect all connectors.
c. Remove the 2 caps, 3 bolts 2 bolts
d. Detach the 2 claws and remove the instrument panel safety pad (with instrument panel reinforcement and steering column).
40. REMOVE AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR
a. Disconnect the connector.
b. Remove the cooler thermistor (solar sensor).
NOTE: Do not pry the cooler thermistor off from the upper position.
41. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.4
a. Remove the 3 clips and duct.
42. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 nuts, 2 bolts and steering column.
43. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PLATE
44. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL PIN NO.1
a. Remove the 3 screws and 3 instrument panel pins.
45. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE GARNISH NO.1
a. Detach the 12 claws and remove the nozzle garnish.
46. REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT NO.1
a. Remove the 2 screws
47. REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT NO.2
a. Remove the 3 screws
48. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE FRONT
a. Remove the 4 screws
49. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.1
a. Remove the clip, 2 screws
50. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.3
a. Remove the 2 screws
51. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.2
a. Remove the 3 screws
52. DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR
53. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT
a. Disconnect all connectors.
b. Remove the 2 bolts
54. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY NO.1
a. Remove the 2 screws
55. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY NO.2
a. Remove the 2 screws
56. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR LOCK STRIKER PLATE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 4 screws
57. w/ LEXUS navigation system:
REMOVE NAVIGATION ANTENNA ASSEMBLY
58. REMOVE CENTER JUNCTION BLOCK
59. REMOVE NETWORK GATEWAY ECU
60. REMOVE LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT
61. REMOVE METER HOOD RETAINER NO.1
a. Remove the screw
62. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
63. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
64. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT
a. Install the reinforcement with the screw
Torque: 20 N.m (200 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) for bolt
b. Connect all connectors.
65. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY
a. Install the steering column with the 2 bolts and 4 nuts.
Torque: 25 N.m (260 kgf.cm, 19 ft.lbf)
66. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the instrument panel safety pad with the 3 bolts 2 bolts
67. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.2
a. Install the brace with the nut and bolt.
68. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.1
a. Install the brace with the nut and 2 bolts.
b. Install the tire pressure monitor receiver with the 2 bolts.
69. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
a. Install the console box with the 8 bolts and 4 screws.
HINT: When the console panel upper is installed, move the shift lever to N and close the receptacle door.
70. CENTER SPIRAL CABLE
71. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
72. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT
73. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
74. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
75. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative(-) battery terminal.
76. INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
77. CHECK SRS WARNING LAMP
