Front Axle Hub Sub-Assy

REPLACEMENT

HINT:
^ Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
^ The procedures listed are for the LH side.
^ A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart.

1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL LH
a. Remove the 10 bolts and ornament.
b. Remove the 5 nuts and wheel.
2. DISCONNECT SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH





3. DISCONNECT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH
a. Remove the 2 bolts and brake cylinder from the steering knuckle.
b. Support the brake cylinder securely.
4. REMOVE FRONT DISC





5. REMOVE STEERING KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY LH
a. Remove the clip and nut of the upper side.
b. Using SST, disconnect the steering knuckle from the upper suspension arm.
SST 09610-20012





c. Remove the 2 bolts and the steering knuckle from the lower ball joint.
Torque: 113 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.)
6. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP LH
a. Using a screwdriver, pry out the grease cap from the steering knuckle.





7. REMOVE FRONT AXLE LOCK NUT
a. Clamp the axle hub in a soft jaw vise.

NOTICE: Close the vise until it holds the hub bolt. Do not tighten excessively.

b. Using a chisel and hammer, loosen the staked part of the lock nut.
c. Using a 36 mm socket wrench, remove the lock nut.
8. REMOVE SKID CONTROL ROTOR FRONT
9. DISCONNECT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER FRONT LH
a. Remove the 4 bolts and shift the brake dust cover toward the outside.





10. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
a. Using SST, remove the axle hub from the steering knuckle.

11. REMOVE BEARING INNER RACE
a. Using SST, remove the inner race from the steering knuckle.
SST 09950-40011 (09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04020, 09954-04010, 09955-04061, 09957-04010, 09958-04011)





12. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB LH OIL SEAL
a. Using SST, remove the oil seal from the steering knuckle.
SST 09308-00010
13. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB LH HOLE SNAP RING
a. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring.





14. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB LH BEARING
a. Using SST and a press, press out the bearing from the steering knuckle.
SST 09950-60010 (09951-00560)





15. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB LH BEARING
a. Using SST and a press, press in a new bearing to steering knuckle.
SST 09309-36010, 09950-60020 (09951-00720), 09950-70010 (09951-07150)

NOTICE: If the inner race and balls come loose from the bearing outer race, make sure to install them in the same position as before.

16. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB LH HOLE SNAP RING
a. Using snap ring pliers, install the snap ring.





17. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB LH OIL SEAL
a. Install the inner race (outside).
b. Using SST and a hammer, tap in a new oil seal until it is flush with the end surface of the steering knuckle.
SST 09608-32010
c. Coat MP grease to the oil seal lip.
18. INSTALL DISC BRAKE DUST COVER FRONT LH
a. Install the brake dust cover to the steering knuckle with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 74 inch lbs.)





19. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
a. Using SST and a press, press in the axle hub to the steering knuckle.
SST 09316-60011 (09316-00011, 09316-00071), 09608-32010
20. INSTALL SKID CONTROL ROTOR FRONT

NOTICE: Do not scratch the serrations of the sensor rotor.





21. INSTALL FRONT AXLE LOCK NUT
a. Using a 36 mm socket wrench, install a new axle hub lock nut.
Torque: 199 Nm (2,030 kgf-cm, 147 ft. lbs.)
b. Using a chisel and hammer, stake the lock nut.
22. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP LH
a. Using a screwdriver and hammer, tap in the grease cap to the steering knuckle.





23. INSTALL STEERING KNUCKLE LH
a. Connect the steering knuckle to the lower ball joint with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 113 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.)
b. Connect the steering knuckle to the upper suspension arm with the nut.
Torque: 87 Nm (890 kgf-cm, 64 ft. lbs.)
c. install the clip.





24. INSPECT BEARING BACKLASH
a. Using a dial indicator near the center of the axle hub, check the backlash in the bearing shaft direction.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch)
If the backlash is greater than the maximum, replace the bearing.
25. INSPECT AXLE HUB DEVIATION
a. Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch)
If the deviation is greater than the maximum, replace the axle hub.
26. INSTALL FRONT DISC





27. CONNECT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH
a. Connect the brake cylinder to the steering knuckle with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 118 Nm (1,200 kgf-cm, 87 ft. lbs.)
28. CONNECT SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH
29. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL LH
a. Install the front wheel with the 5 nuts.
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
b. Install the ornament with the 10 bolts.
Torque: 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.)
30. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT
