On-Vehicle Inspection
ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION1. CHECK HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
b. With the horn button (with airbag) installed on the vehicle perform a visual check:
Check for cuts, cracks or discoloration on the horn button surface and in the grooved portion.
If any of the defects mentioned above are present, replace the horn button assembly with a new one.
CAUTION: For Removal and Installation of the horn button, see "Removal and Installation".Be sure to follow the correct procedures.
2. CHECK HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
b. With the horn button (with airbag) removed from the vehicle, perform a visual check:
- Check for cuts, cracks or discoloration on the horn button assembly top surface and in the grooved portion.
- Check for cuts and cracks in the wire harness, and chipping on the connectors.
- Check for deformation on the steering wheel.
- Check for deformation of the horn button contact plate.
If any of the defects mentioned above are present replace the horn button with a new one.
CAUTION: For Removal and Installation of the horn button, see "Removal and Installation". Be sure to follow the correct procedure.
HINT:
- If the horn button contact plate is deformed, never repair it. Always replace the horn button assembly with a new one.
- There should be no interference between the horn button and steering wheel, and the clearance should be uniform all the way around when the new horn button is installed on the steering wheel.

3. CHECK FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
b. With the front passenger airbag installed in the vehicle,perform a visual check:
Check for cuts, cracks or discoloration on the front passenger airbag and instrument panel.
If any of the defects mentioned above are present, replace the front passenger airbag and instrument panel with a new one.
CAUTION:
- For Removal and Installation of the front passenger airbag, see "Removal and Installation."
- Be sure to follow the correct procedures.
4. CHECK FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
b. With the front passenger airbag removed from the vehicle,perform a visual check:
- Check for cuts, cracks or discoloration on the front passenger airbag.
- Check for cuts and cracks in the wire harness, and for chipping on the connectors.
- Check for deformation or cracks on the instrument panel and instrument panel reinforcement.
CAUTION:
- For Removal and Installation procedures of the front passenger airbag, see "Removal and Installation."
- Be sure to follow the correct procedure.
- For Removal and Installation procedures of the instrument panel and instrument panel reinforcement, see " Instrument Panel/Meter/Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators/Service and Repair/Procedures/Replacement".
5. CHECK FRONT SEAT AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
b. With the front seat (with airbag) installed on the vehicle,perform a visual check.
Check for cuts or frays in the seams and surface of seatback cover.
If any of the detects mentioned are present, replace the front seatback frame.
6. CHECK FRONT SEAT AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
b. With the front seatback frame removed from the front seat assembly, perform a visual check:
- Check for cuts, cracks or discoloration on the front seat airbag.
- Check for cuts and cracks in the wire harness, and for chipping on the connector.
- Check for deformation or cracks on the front seatback frame.
If any of the detects mentioned are present, replace the front seatback frame.
7. CHECK AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
8. CHECK AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
9. CHECK AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG DEPLOYED)
a. Replace the airbag sensor assembly center.
10. CHECK FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
11. CHECK FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
b. If the front fender of the vehicle or its periphery are damaged, perform a visual check:
- Check for cracks, dents or chips in the case.
- Check for cracks, dents, chips and scratches in the connector.
- Check for peeling of the label or damage to the serial number.
If any of the defects mentioned are present, replace the front airbag sensor.
12. CHECK FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG DEPLOYED)
a. Replace the side airbag sensor assembly.
13. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
14. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
b. If the rear fender of the vehicle or its periphery are damaged, perform a visual check:
- Check for cracks, dents or chips in the case.
- Check for cracks, dents, chips and scratches in the connector.
- Check for peeling of the label or damage to the serial number.
If any of the defects mentioned are present, replace the side airbag sensor.
15. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG DEPLOYED)
a. Replace the side airbag sensor assembly.
16. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
17. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
b. If the door of the vehicle or its periphery is damaged, perform a visual check:
- Check for cracks, dents or chips in the case.
- Check for cracks, dents, chips and scratches in the connector.
- Check for peeling of the label or damage to the serial number.
If any of the defects mentioned above are present, replace the door side airbag sensor
18. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG DEPLOYED)
a. Replace the door side airbag sensor.
19. CHECK WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
20. CHECK WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Perform a diagnostic system check. (Refer to Diagnostic Strategies.)
b. Check for breaks in all wires of the SRS wire harness and exposed conductors.
c. Check if the SRS wire harness connectors are cracked or chipped.
If any of the defects mentioned are present, replace the wire harness.
HINT: The SRS wire harness is integrated with the engine room main wire, instrument panel wire harness assembly,floor wire harness, floor wire harness No. 2, door wire harness LH and RH. All the connectors in the system are a standard yellow.
