Introduction
To improve the opening/closing effort of the navigation system door, the following procedure has been developed.
Applicable Vehicles
2005 model year SC 430 vehicles equipped with Lexus Navigation System.

Warranty Information
Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Precaution
NOTE:
^ Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model year SC 430 Repair Manual for the procedure for removing the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly center with multi-display.
^ Be careful not to install improper types of screws.
Preparation
Procedure
1. Remove Air Conditioner Control Assembly.
2. Remove Instrument Panel Safety Pad Garnish Sub-assembly.
3. Remove Instrument Panel Garnish Sub-assembly No. 2.
4. Remove Instrument Cluster Finish Panel Sub-assembly Center.
A. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 screws.
B. Disconnect the connector, then remove the multi-display (Center Display) and instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly center and clip.
Components
Repair Procedure
1. Remove Instrument Panel Upper Bracket No.2 (2005 model year only).
A. Remove the 4 screws from the instrument panel upper bracket No. 2 (2 on each side).
B. Remove the instrument panel upper bracket No. 2.
2. Remove Instrument Panel Finish Panel Upper.
A. Remove the 4 screws from the instrument panel finish panel upper (2 on each side).
B. Remove the instrument panel finish panel upper.
3. Remove Instrument Panel Finish Panel No. 1 Retainer.
A. Remove the ground screw, and then remove the ground.
B. Remove the 5 screws, and then remove the instrument panel finish panel No. 1 retainer.
4. Remove Instrument Cluster Finish Panel Center Sub-assembly.
A. Pull the shaft of the instrument cluster finish lower panel sub-assembly backward to fully open the instrument cluster finish panel center.
HINT:
The motor assembly should be at the end of its travel (panel open position).
B. Separate the 2 clamps, and then remove the instrument cluster finish panel center sub-assembly.
CAUTION:
^ Be careful not to lose any parts including the washers on the end of the shaft.
^ Do not scratch the instrument cluster finish panel center.
5. Remove Instrument Panel Finish Panel No. 2 Retainer.
A. Remove the 5 screws, and then remove the instrument panel finish panel No. 2 retainer.
6. Remove Multi-display (Center Display) Sub-assembly.
A. At area "A," carefully disconnect the 2 connectors and remove as shown in area "a."
B. Remove the navigation computer upper cover, and disconnect the connector shown in area "b."
C. Carefully remove the clamp in area "B."
D. Cut the wire tie on the back side of the instrument cluster center finish panel sub-assembly retainer. And then, remove the multi-display wire from the clamp.
E. Remove the 2 screws.
F. Remove the multi-display (center display) sub-assembly.
7. Install Multi-display (Center Display) Sub-assembly into New Instrument Cluster Finish Panel Sub-assembly Center.
A. Install the multi-display (center display) sub-assembly.
B. Tighten the 2 screws.
Torque: 0.69 to 0.71 N.m (6.83 to 7.24 kgf.cm, 0.49 to 0.52 ft.lbf)
NOTE:
Align the tab below the multi-display with the positioning cut area of the instrument cluster center finish panel sub-assembly retainer.
C. Remove the navigation computer upper cover, and then carefully connect the connector shown in area "b." Ensure the connector is fully seated.
D. Fit the wire harness into the cut-out area of the cover.
E. Carefully secure the wire multi-display connectors on the metal tabs.
F. At area "A" in the illustration, carefully secure 2 wire multi-display connectors on the metal tabs "a."
G. Install the clamp in area "B."
H. Install the navigation computer upper cover.
NOTE:
Do not twist the multi-display wire when installing the clamp in area "B."
8. Install New Instrument Cluster Finish Panel Sub-assembly Center.
A. Carefully install the instrument panel finish panel No. 2 retainer, and then temporarily tighten the 5 screws.
HINT:
Please ensure metal tabs and brass pin on multi-display are aligned properly.
CAUTION:
Grease has already been applied to the instrument panel finish panel No. 2 retainer. Be careful to prevent it from spreading on the other parts.
B. Install the instrument panel finish panel No.1 retainer, and then temporarily tighten the 6 screws.
HINT:
Please ensure metal tabs and brass pin on multi-display are aligned properly.
NOTE:
^ Install the instrument cluster finish panel center sub-assembly.
^ Fit the shaft of the instrument cluster finish lower panel sub-assembly into the 2 clamps.
^ Pull the shaft of the instrument cluster finish lower panel sub-assembly backward.
NOTE:
Increase the width of the instrument panel finish panel No. 1 and No. 2 retainers by pushing them outward by approximately 2 mm (0.079 in.), and then carefully fit the rollers into the rail grooves.
HINT:
The motor assembly should be at the end of its travel (panel open position).
NOTE:
Fit the rollers into the rail grooves as shown in the illustration.
C. Tighten the 5 screws on the instrument panel finish panel No. 2 retainer with the specified amount of torque.
D. Tighten the 6 screws on the instrument panel finish panel No. 1 retainer with the specified amount of torque.
Torque: 0.67 to 0.71 N.m (6.83 to 7.24 kgf.cm, 0.49 to 0.52 ft.lbf)
9. Install Instrument Panel Finish Panel Upper.
A. Install the instrument panel finish panel upper.
B. Tighten the 4 screws.
Torque: 0.67 to 0.71 N.m (6.83 to 7.24 kgf.cm, 0.49 to 0.52 ft.lbf)
C. Check to make sure the instrument finish panel center sub-assembly slides smoothly by moving the motor assembly forward and rearward.
NOTE:
Motor assembly must be moved to the end of its travel prior to reassembly in vehicle (panel door in the open position).
10. Install Instrument Panel Upper Bracket No. 2 (2005 model year only).
A. Install the instrument panel upper bracket No. 2.
B. Tighten the 4 screws.
Torque: 0.67 to 0.71 N.m (6.83 to 7.24 kgf.cm, 0.49 to 0.52 ft.lbf)
11. Install Wire Tie.
A. Fix a cable tie at the position shown in the illustration.
NOTE:
Cut off the excess material from the wire tie.
12. Check Operation.
A. After assembling the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly center with multi-display, visually check the appearance to make sure that the instrument cluster finish panel center is centered.
B. Check that instrument cluster finish panel center operates properly.
13. Reassembly Is the Reverse Order of Disassembly.
14. Function Test Operation of Navigation Unit.
