Inspection Procedure
NOTE
This Inspection Procedure will help identify a potential cause of a given Smart Key system malfunction. If the Smart Key system Data List cannot be accessed, the Certification ECU may be inoperative due to a door handle wire harness condition. Disconnecting a given handle to remove a potential short circuit may be necessary to determine the health of the Certification ECU.
1. Check Smart Key operation from both front doors to confirm the following:
A. Unlock function from touch sensor inside pull handle.
B. Lock function when pushing black button on outside of handle.
2. Once the specific malfunction is confirmed, use Techstream Smart Key Data List to review the corresponding signal from the left or right door as illustrated in Figure 1.
^ Door Touch Sensor
^ Door Trigger Switch
3. If the Data List illustrates no change at all in "D-Door Touch Sensor" when touching inside pad of handle and/or "D-Door Trigger Switch" when pushing the lock button, use the Communication Check utility to check oscillator operation (see screen transition examples below for left front door).
Repair Procedure
1. Replace front door handle frame and outside handle in affected door.
Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) applicable model and model year Repair Manual:
2. Confirm normal Smart Key operation after repairs are completed as per previous listed inspections.
3. Verify there are no abnormal sounds when running window up and down in both front doors.
