DRIVE BELTCOMPONENTS:
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
2. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET
3. REMOVE FAN AND GENERATOR V-BELT
(a) Loosen the belt tension by turning the belt tensioner counterclockwise, and remove the belt.
HINT: The tension pulley has a left hand thread.
INSPECTION
1. INSPECT FAN AND GENERATOR V-BELT
HINT: Use of the automatic tensioner has made tension and flexibility measurements unnecessary.
(a) Check that the indicator mark on the automatic tensioner is within the A range shown in the illustration.
(b) When the mark is in range B, replace the belt with a new one.
If the result is not as specified, replace the belt.
HINT:
^ After installing the V-belt, check that it fits properly in the ribbed grooves. Check with your hand to confirm that the belt has not slipped out of the grooves on the bottom of the crank pulley.
^ A "new belt" is a belt which has been used for less than 5 minutes on a running engine.
^ A "used belt" is a belt which has been used on a running engine for 5 minutes or more.
^ After installing a new belt, run the engine for approximately 5 minutes and then recheck the tension.
2. INSPECT V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY
(a) Idle the engine and then stop the engine. Check that the drive belt is between the edges of the idler pulley.
(b) Remove the drive belt from the tensioner pulley.
(c) Turn the pulley, and check that the tensioner bearing moves smoothly and quietly.
If necessary, replace the tensioner.
(d) Install the drive belt.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL FAN AND GENERATOR V-BELT
(a) Set the V-belt to everything except the idler pulley No. 2, as shown in the illustration.
(b) Loosen the V-belt by turning the belt tensioner counterclockwise.
(c) Then set the V-belt to the idler pulley.
(d) After a new belt has been installed, check that the mark is within the A range shown in the illustration.
