Engine Control Module: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
2. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
3. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
4. REMOVE ECM COVER
a. Remove the 3 bolts and ECM cover.
NOTE:
- Make sure there is no water on or around the ECM cover.
- Perform the inspection indoors to avoid rain.
- Prevent water from contacting the ECM's connectors and screw areas.
5. REMOVE ECM
a. Disconnect the wire harness.
1. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the 2 connector holders.
2. Disconnect the 5 ECM connectors.
b. Remove the 2 nuts and ECM from the ECM box.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL ECM
a. Insert the ECM into the ECM box.
NOTE:
- Insert the ECM into the ECM box with the nameplate facing the inside of the vehicle.
- Make sure that there is no foreign matter on the gasket surface of the ECM box.
- Insert the stud bolt on the vehicle rear side to the ECM first.
- Make sure that stud bolts are securely installed into the front and rear bolt holes.
b. Install the ECM to the ECM box with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf)
NOTE: Be sure to first tighten the nut on the vehicle rear side.
c. Connect the wire harness.
1. Connect the 5 ECM connectors.
2. Install the 2 connector holders.
NOTE: Be sure to securely connect the connector.
2. INSTALL ECM COVER
a. Install the ECM cover with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf)
NOTE: Make sure that the wire harness does not get caught between other parts.
3. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
4. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
5. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
6. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
