Repair Instruction - Initialization

INITIALIZATION

NOTE: When disconnecting the cable from negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following system(s) after the terminal is reconnected.

The initialization procedures are given in the table.

System Name
Power Window Control System
Intuitive Parking Assist System
Variable Gear Ratio Steering System

1. RESET (INITIALIZE) POWER WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR

NOTE: The power window regulator motor (initializing the pulse sensor) must be reset if: 1) the battery cable has been disconnected; 2) the power window regulator master switch, wire harness, power window regulator switch, window regulator, or power window regulator motor are replaced or removed / installed; or 3) the DC/DC or MPX-B fuses are replaced. If resetting is not performed, the master switch will not be able to operate the AUTO operation function, jam protection function and remote UP / DOWN function.

a. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
b. Open the power window halfway by pressing the power window switch.
c. Fully pull up the switch until the power window is fully closed and continue to hold the switch for at least 1 second.
d. Check that the AUTO UP / DOWN function operates normally.

HINT: If the AUTO UP / DOWN function operates normally, reset operations are completed. If abnormal, perform the 2 steps below.

e. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal for 10 seconds or more.
f. Reconnect the cable.
g. Repeat the first 4 steps of resetting the power window regulator motor.

HINT: If the remote UP / DOWN function does not operate after the conditions 1), 2), or 3) is satisfied, the power window regulator master switch may have a malfunction.

2. RESET INTUITIVE PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM

HINT: The mid-point learning operation (steering angle midpoint, maximum steering angle) can be performed using 4 methods:

a. Method 1 (Intelligent tester)
1. Turn the engine switch off.
2. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
3. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and push the intelligent tester main switch ON.
4. Select the following menus: "DIAGNOSIS / OBD".

5. Perform the STEERING INIT procedure from the INTUITIVE P/A menu. Tester screen flow:

b. Method 2 (Manual operation method)
1. Using customize mode, set the mid-point and maximum steering angle.

c. Method 3 (Manual operation method)
1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
2. Turn the clearance sonar main switch ON.
3. Turn the steering wheel to the full left and right lock position.

NOTE: Make sure to completely turn the steering wheel to the left and right full lock position.

4. Confirm that the learning operation has been completed by checking the multi-information display.

d. Method 4 (Manual operation method)
1. At an area with few turns and curves, and minimal traffic, drive at 20 km/h (12 mph) or more for 5 minutes or more.

3. STEERING ANGLE SENSOR INITIALIZATION (to obtain a tire angle (during straight-ahead driving) signal)

a. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and check that the master warning light and VSC/ABS warning lights illuminate for a few seconds.

NOTE: If the warning lights remain on or blink, repair he applicable system.

b. Drive the vehicle on a straight road at 35 km/h (22 mph) or more for 5 seconds or longer.

HINT:
- At this point, the steering wheel will still remain off-center by 5 to 10 degrees.
- In this step, the neutral position of the steering wheel is restored from the steering control ECU memory.

c. Confirm that steering angle sensor initialization is completed (when using the intelligent tester).
1. Enter the VGRS menu using the intelligent tester. Select "STRAIGH ANG FLG" from "DATA LIST". Check if the steering angle sensor has obtained a tire angle (during straight-ahead driving) signal.

Standard: "VALID" is displayed on the tester screen.

d. Confirm that steering angle sensor initialization is completed (when not using the intelligent tester).
1. Drive the vehicle on a straight road at 60 km/h (37 mph) or more for 30 seconds or longer.
2. Stop the vehicle (engine running).
3. Slowly turn the steering wheel from lock to lock.
4. If it turns approximately 2.7 turns, steering angle sensor initialization is completed. If it turns approximately 3.2 turns, steering angle sensor initialization is not completed.

NOTE: If the steering wheel turns approximately 3.2 turns, perform step (b) again.
