Global Positioning System: Description and Operation

System Outline

This system's main mission is communication between vehicles and exclusive service center.

1. Emergency Call Function
1. Automatic emergency call in conjunction with airbag deployment
When crash signal is input from the airbag ECU to this system, an emergency call is automatically made to the call center to send the vehicle location information and user information through data communication. After that, the call is connected to a stationed operator to receive assistance through conversation.
2. Manual emergency call
When the system recognizes push of the emergency button, a call is made to the call center to send the vehicle location information and user information through data communication. After that, the call is connected to a stationed operator to receive assistance through conversation.

2. Safety Function
1. Chasing a stolen car
When an operator of the center is informed from a user that his/her car is stolen, the operator connects with the system of the car to obtain the vehicle location information at present from GPS and to chase the car. The operator contacts the police and the like if necessary. Command transmission from the call center enables to monitor sound in the stolen car.
2. Remote door lock/unlock
When the system receives the door lock/unlock signal from the call center, it locks/unlocks the vehicle doors through vehicle LAN (BEAN communication).
3. Remote alarm
When the system receives the light flashing/horn honking signal from the call center, it flashes the light /honks the horn through vehicle LAN (BEAN communication).
4. Road service
An operator of the call center sends the nearest road service to the site upon receiving contact from a user.
5. Coping with an accident
By pushing the service button in vehicle accident, a user can contact the call center through the system. The operator informs the police, emergency center, insurance company, family, etc. of it if necessary.

3. Drive Assist Function
1. Navigation (Voice)
By pushing the service button when a user is lost, he/she can connect the call center. He/she can receive the operator's voice navigation to his/her destination with the latest map from the operator's monitor.
2. Shop information (Voice)
By pushing the service button, a user can connect the call center. He/she can receive the operator's voice information of nearby ATM, gas station, hotel, restaurant, etc.
3. Drive assist
When a user falls in the condition where he/she cannot drive, pushing the service button connect him/her to the call center. He/she can ask the operator to arrange taxi service through voice communication with the operator.

4. Convenient Functions
1. Concierge
Pushing the service button connects a user to the call center. He/she can ask the operator to arrange services such as hotel reservation, flower delivery, theater ticket reservation, taxi and so on.
2. Advisor record
By pushing the service button during conversation with an operator of the call center, the conversation can be recorded. The recorded data can be played by using voice recognition.

5. Other Services
1. Personal calling: PC
A user can make conversation hands free with general telephones after making pre payment.
2. Advanced service: AS
A user can receive information delivery from voice recognition/voice synthesis of the center after making pre payment.
3. Diagnosis function
With special button sequence, diagnosis can be made by using indicator.
