REAR AXLE HUBCOMPONENTS (Part 1):
COMPONENTS (Part 2):
ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
3. REMOVE REAR DISC
4. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS
(a) Using a dial indicator, check for looseness near the center of the axle hub.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)
NOTICE:
Ensure that the dial indicator is set at a right angle to the measurement surface.
If the looseness exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub.
5. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT
(a) Using a dial indicator, check for runout on the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)
NOTICE:
Ensure that the dial indicator is set at a right angle to the measurement surface.
If the runout exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub.
6. INSTALL REAR DISC
7. CONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
8. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
REMOVAL
CAUTION:
When the brake caliper is removed from the brake disc, do not start the hybrid system. If the hybrid system is started, the brake fluid pressure may increase.
1. TURN POWER SWITCH OFF
(a) Turn the power switch OFF, and check that the "READY" indicator turns off.
2. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
3. DISCONNECT LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET
4. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT
(a) Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the axle shaft nut.

NOTICE:
Release the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the screw of the drive shaft may be damaged.
(b) While applying the brakes, remove the rear axle shaft nut.
5. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
6. REMOVE REAR DISC
7. REMOVE REAR SPEED SENSOR
8. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING
9. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING
10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET
11. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
12. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
13. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER
14. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE ANCHOR BLOCK
(a) Remove the 2 nuts and the parking brake anchor block from the rear axle carrier.
15. REMOVE REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the nut from the rear upper control arm.
(b) Using SST, remove the rear upper control arm from the rear axle carrier.

NOTICE:
^ Pay careful attention not to damage the rear axle carrier because it is made of aluminum and may be damaged easily.
^ Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
^ Make sure that SST is securely set to the rear axle carrier spacer.
^ If the rear axle carrier spacer has come off, replace the rear axle carrier with a new one.
^ Make sure that the string of SST is securely tied to the vehicle.
16. REMOVE REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Jack up the rear axle so that the bolt on the rear upper No. 1 control arm can be removed.
HINT:
Place a wooden block between the jack and rear axle carrier to prevent damage to the rear axle carrier.
(b) Remove the bolt, washer and nut, and the rear upper No. 1 control arm from the rear axle carrier.
17. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the bolt and nut, and separate the rear suspension arm from the rear axle carrier.
NOTICE:
Turn the bolt while holding the nut.
18. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the bolt and nut, and separate the rear No. 2 suspension arm from the rear axle carrier.
NOTICE:
Turn the bolt while holding the nut.
19. DISCONNECT TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the nut from the toe control link.
(b) Using SST, disconnect the toe control link from the rear axle carrier.

NOTICE:
^ Pay careful attention not to damage the rear axle carrier because it is made of aluminum and may be damaged easily.
^ Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
^ Make sure that SST is securely set to the rear axle carrier spacer.
^ If the rear axle carrier spacer has come off, replace the rear axle carrier with a new one.
^ Make sure that the string of SST is securely tied to the vehicle.
20. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a plastic-faced hammer, remove the drive shaft from the rear axle carrier.
(b) Remove the rear axle.
NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the boot.
^ Use a wire or an equivalent to keep the rear drive shaft from hanging down.
21. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR
(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the bearing dust deflector from the rear axle carrier.
22. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY
(a) Hold the axle hub and bearing in a vise between aluminum plates.
NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the vise.
(b) Remove the 4 bolts and axle hub and bearing from the rear axle carrier.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:

(a) Turn the power switch OFF, and check that the "READY" indicator turns off.
2. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY
(a) Hold the axle hub and bearing in a vise between aluminum plates.
NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the vise.
(b) Install the axle hub and bearing to the rear axle carrier with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 70 N*m (714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf)
3. INSTALL REAR NO. 2 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR
(a) Using SST and a hammer, install the No. 2 bearing dust deflector to the rear axle carrier.
SST 09951-01000, 09950-70010 (09951-07150)
HINT:
Align the hole for the speed sensor in the No. 2 bearing dust deflector with the rear axle carrier.
4. INSTALL REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the rear drive shaft to the rear axle.
5. INSTALL REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the rear No. 2 upper control arm to the rear axle carrier with a new nut.
Torque: 70 N*m (714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf)
6. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Temporarily tighten the rear upper control arm to the rear axle carrier with the bolt, washer and nut.
HINT:
Install the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.
7. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm to the rear axle carrier with the bolt and nut.
HINT:
Install the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.
8. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm to the rear axle carrier with the bolt and nut.
HINT:
Install the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.
9. CONNECT TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Connect the toe control link to the rear axle carrier with a new nut.
Torque: 70 N*m (714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf)
10. CONNECT LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET
11. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE
12. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE ANCHOR BLOCK
(a) Install the parking brake anchor block to the rear axle carrier with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 76 N*m (775 kgf*cm, 56 ft.*lbf)
13. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER
14. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
15. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
16. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET
17. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING
18. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING
19. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION
20. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR
21. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT
(a) While applying the brakes, install a new rear axle shaft nut.
Torque: 290 N*m (2,957 kgf*cm, 214 ft.*lbf)
22. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS
23. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT
24. INSTALL REAR DISC
25. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE
26. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
27. STAKE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT
(a) Using a chisel and a hammer, stake the axle shaft nut.
28. STABILIZE SUSPENSION
29. TIGHTEN REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Tighten the rear upper control arm with the nut.
Torque: 161 N*m (1,642 kgf*cm, 119 ft.*lbf)
30. TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Tighten the rear suspension arm with the bolt and nut.
Torque: 95 N*m (969 kgf*cm, 70 ft.*lbf)
NOTICE:
Turn the bolt while holding the nut.
31. TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Tighten the rear suspension arm with the bolt and nut.
Torque: 161 N*m (1,642 kgf*cm, 119 ft.*lbf)
NOTICE:
Turn the bolt while holding the nut.
32. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
33. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL
34. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL
35. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
(a) Inspect and adjust the rear wheel alignment.
36. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
