Side Airbag Sensor:
SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR
REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
2. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE
3. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE
4. REMOVE CENTER PILLAR GARNISH LOWER
5. DISCONNECT FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the pretensioner connector as shown in the illustration labeled A.
b. Disconnect the tension reducer connector labeled B.
c. Disconnect the pre-collision connector labeled C.
d. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the front seat outer belt assembly.
6. REMOVE FRONT SEAT BELT RETRACTOR COVER
a. Disengage the claw and remove the front seat belt retractor cover from the body.
7. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS PROTECTOR
a. Disengage the 2 claws (A) and open the protector cover.
b. Disconnect the connector.
c. Disengage the 3 claws (B) and remove the wire harness protector from the body.
d. Remove the hole plug.
8. REMOVE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR
a. Remove the 2 bolts and side airbag sensor from the body.
b. Disconnect the connector.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR
a. Check that the power switch is OFF.
b. Check that the cable is disconnected from the battery negative (-) terminal.
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
c. Install the side airbag sensor with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 18 N.m (184 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)
NOTE:
- If the side airbag sensor has been dropped, or there are any cracks, dents or other defects in the case, bracket or connector, replace it with a new one.
- When installing the side airbag sensor, be careful that the SRS wiring does not interfere with other parts and that it is not pinched between other parts.
d. Check that there is no looseness in the installation parts of the side airbag sensor.
e. Connect the connector.
2. INSTALL WIRE HARNESS PROTECTOR
a. Engage the 3 claws (A) and install the wire harness protector to the body.
b. Connect the connector.
c. Engage the 2 claws (B) and close the protector cover.
d. Install the hole plug.
3. INSTALL FRONT SEAT BELT RETRACTOR COVER
a. Engage the claw and install the front seat belt retractor cover to the body.
4. CONNECT FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT ASSEMBLY
a. Connect the front seat outer belt assembly with the 2 bolts. Be sure to tighten bolt A before tightening bolt B.
Torque:
7.5 N.m (77 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf) for bolt A
42 N.m (428 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) for bolt B
b. Connect the pretensioner connector labeled A, as shown in the illustration.
c. Connect the tension reducer connector labeled B.
d. Connect the pre-collision connector labeled C.
5. INSTALL CENTER PILLAR GARNISH LOWER
6. INSTALL REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE
7. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE
8. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
9. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
10. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT
a. Check the SRS warning light.
