7. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT
(a) Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the axle shaft nut.
SST 09930-00010

NOTICE:
Release the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the threads of the drive shaft may be damaged.

(b) While depressing the brake pedal, remove the axle shaft nut.

8. REMOVE REAR SPEED SENSOR
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and speed sensor from the axle carrier.

NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
^ Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor.

9. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the rear disc brake caliper.

NOTICE:
Use a wire or an equivalent to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.

(b) Remove the caliper plates from the brake caliper.
10. REMOVE REAR DISC
11. REMOVE REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
12. REMOVE REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
13. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
14. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
15. DISCONNECT REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Push the rear axle carrier toward the outside of the vehicle. Using a plastic-faced hammer, disconnect the rear drive shaft from the rear axle carrier.

NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the joint boot and speed sensor.
^ Do not push out the rear axle carrier excessively.
^ Use a wire or an equivalent to keep the rear drive shaft from hanging down.

16. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Using SST, remove the rear drive shaft.
SST 09520-01010, 09520-24010 (09520-32040)

NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the oil seal, inboard joint boot and drive shaft dust cover.
^ Be careful not to drop the drive shaft.

INSPECTION

1. INSPECT REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Check that there is no excessive play in the outboard joint.
(b) Check that the inboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust direction.
(c) Check that there is no excessive play in the radial directions of the inboard joint.
(d) Check the boot for damage.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION:
When the brake caliper is removed from the brake disc, do not start the hybrid system. If the hybrid system is started, the brake fluid pressure may increase.

1. TURN POWER SWITCH OFF
(a) Turn the power switch OFF, and check that the "READY" indicator turns off.
2. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Coat the spline of the inboard joint shaft with gear oil.
(b) Set the shaft snap ring with the opening side facing down.

(c) Align the shaft splines and install the drive shaft with a brass bar and hammer.

NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the drive shaft dust cover, boot and oil seal.
^ Move the drive shaft while keeping it level.

HINT:
Whether the inboard joint shaft is in contact with the pinion shaft or not can be checked from the sound or feeling when driving it in.

(d) Install the rear drive shaft to the rear axle carrier.

NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot.

3. INSTALL REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
4. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
5. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
6. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY

7. INSTALL LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET
(a) Install the stabilizer link and the load sensing valve sensor bracket to the rear suspension arm with the bolt and nut.
Torque: 27 N*m (275 kgf*cm, 20 ft.*lbf)
8. INSTALL REAR DISC

9. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the rear disc brake caliper and caliper plates with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 54 N*m (551 kgf*cm, 40 ft.*lbf)

NOTICE:
^ Do not twist the rear brake hose when installing the rear disc brake caliper.
^ Make sure that there are no foreign objects or damage to the threads.
^ Do not overtighten the bolts because the hub carrier is made of aluminum and may be damaged.

10. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR
(a) Install the speed sensor to the rear axle carrier with the 2 bolts.
Torque:
8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf) for bolt (A)
