ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION SENSOR
(a) Apply the parking brake.
(b) Turn the power switch on (READY).
(c) Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts when the shift lever is set in the P position, but does not start in other positions.
(d) Check that the back-up light comes on and the reverse warning buzzer sounds when the shift lever is set in the R position, but the light and buzzer do not operate in other positions. If a failure is found, check the shift lever position sensor for continuity.
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR MAT
2. REMOVE BATTERY SERVICE HOLE COVER LH
3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
4. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
5. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
6. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
7. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE FRONT UPPER FENDER PROTECTOR LH
9. REMOVE FRONT UPPER FENDER PROTECTOR RH
10. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY LH
11. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY RH
12. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL LH
13. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL RH
14. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
15. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
16. SEPARATE NO. 2 VENTILATION HOSE
17. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE
18. REMOVE THROTTLE WITH MOTOR BODY ASSEMBLY
19. REMOVE INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK ASSEMBLY
20. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER
21. REMOVE HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
(a) Remove the heated oxygen sensor.
22. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER
23. REMOVE REAR FLOOR NO. 1 PANEL BRACE
24. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
25. REMOVE AIR GUIDE PLATE OUTSIDE RH
(a) Remove the 4 nuts, and air guide plate outside RH.
26. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR COVER CENTER RH
(a) Remove the 3 grommets, and front floor cover center RH.
27. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR NO. 1 HEAT INSULATOR
28. REMOVE PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY
29. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Set the shift lever to the neutral position.
(b) Remove the nut, and separate the floor shift gear shifting rod sub-assembly.
30. SUPPORT HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
(a) Support the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly with a transmission jack.
31. SEPARATE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 4 bolts, and separate the rear engine mounting insulator from the body.
32. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER POSITION SENSOR
(a) Tilt down the hybrid transmission assembly.
(b) Disconnect the shift lever position sensor connector.
(c) Remove the nut and transmission control shaft lever.
(d) Using a screwdriver, pry out the lock washer.
(e) Remove the lock nut and lock washer.
(f) Remove the 2 bolts and shift lever position sensor.
INSPECTION
1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION SENSOR
(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table when the shift lever is moved to each position.
Standard resistance:
If operation cannot be done as specified, replace the shift lever position sensor.
ADJUSTMENT
1. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION SENSOR
(a) Set the shift lever to the N position.
(b) Remove the nut and transmission control shaft lever.
(c) Loosen the 2 bolts of the shift lever position sensor.
(d) Align the groove and the neutral alignment mark line.
(e) Hold the switch in position and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)
(f) After adjustment, perform the inspection.
(g) Install the transmission control shaft lever with the nut.
Torque: 16 N*m (163 kgf*cm, 12 ft.*lbf)
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER POSITION SENSOR
(a) Install the shift lever position sensor to the hybrid transmission.
(b) Temporarily install the 2 bolts.
HINT:
Fully tighten the bolts with the neutral alignment mark line aligned with the groove. [*1]
(c) Install a new lock washer and the nut.
Torque: 6.9 N*m (70 kgf*cm, 61 in.*lbf)
(d) Temporarily install the control shaft lever.
HINT:
Stake the claws of the nut stopper before fully tightening the nut. [*2]
(e) Turn the control shaft lever counterclockwise until it stops. Next, turn the control shaft lever clockwise 2 notches to set it to the N position.
(f) Remove the transmission control shaft lever.
(g) Align the neutral alignment mark line with the switch groove, and tighten the 2 adjusting bolts. [*1]
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)
(h) Using a screwdriver, bend the tabs of the lock washer.
NOTICE:
Make sure that the nut is held firmly.
(i) Install the transmission control shaft lever with the nut. [*2]
Torque: 16 N*m (163 kgf*cm, 12 ft.*lbf)
(j) Connect the shift lever position sensor connector.
2. INSTALL REAR ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR ASSEMBLY
(a) Tilt up the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly.
(b) Install the rear engine mounting insulator to the body with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 26 N*m (260 kgf*cm, 19 ft.*lbf)
3. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Move the shift lever to the N position and tighten the nut while lightly pushing the lever toward the R position.
Torque: 13 N*m (130 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf)
NOTICE:
Do not push the shift lever too hard.
4. INSTALL PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY
5. FULLY TIGHTEN NO. 1 CENTER SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY
6. INSPECT AND ADJUST NO. 2 AND NO. 3 JOINT ANGLE
7. INSTALL AIR GUIDE PLATE OUTSIDE RH
(a) Install the air guide plate outside RH with the 4 nuts.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)
8. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR NO. 1 HEAT INSULATOR
9. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR COVER CENTER RH
(a) Install the front floor cover center RH with the 3 grommets.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)
10. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
11. INSTALL REAR FLOOR NO. 1 PANEL BRACE
12. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER
13. INSTALL HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
(a) Install the heated oxygen sensor.
14. INSTALL INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK ASSEMBLY
15. INSTALL THROTTLE WITH MOTOR BODY ASSEMBLY
16. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE
17. INSTALL NO. 2 VENTILATION HOSE
18. INSTALL COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
19. INSTALL FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL LH
20. INSTALL FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL RH
21. INSTALL FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY RH
22. INSTALL FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY LH
23. INSTALL FRONT FENDER PROTECTOR UPPER LH
24. INSTALL FRONT FENDER PROTECTOR UPPER RH
25. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
26. INSTALL BATTERY SERVICE HOLE COVER LH
27. INSTALL LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR MAT
28. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
29. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION

31. CHECK FUNCTION OF THROTTLE BODY
32. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
33. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
34. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
35. CHECK ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL
36. INSTALL NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER
37. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
38. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
39. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
40. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
41. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
(a) Perform initialization.
NOTICE:
Certain systems need to be initialized after reconnecting the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
