Drive Belt: Testing and Inspection

2UR-FSE ENGINE MECHANICAL: DRIVE BELT: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. INSPECT V-RIBBED BELT

(a) Visually check the belt for excessive wear, frayed cords, etc.
If any defect is found, replace the belt.
HINT: Cracks on the rib side of a belt are considered acceptable. If the belt has chunks missing from the ribs, it should be replaced.

(b) Check by hand that the belt fits properly in the ribbed grooves and has not slipped out of the grooves on the bottom of the crank pulley.

(c) Check that the alignment mark on the belt tensioner is within area "A".
If it is outside area "A", replace the V-ribbed belt.
HINT: When a new belt is installed, the alignment mark should be within area "B". If not, the V-ribbed belt is not installed correctly.

2. INSPECT V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY
(a) Check that nothing gets caught in the tensioner by turning it clockwise and counterclockwise. If a malfunction exists, replace the tensioner.
