Introduction

Some 2007 model year LS460/460L and 2008 model year LS 600h customers may complain of a loose glove box door condition or a rattle noise from the glove box while driving at 25 - 35 mph (40 - 56 km/h) on rough roads. Use the following repair procedure to correct this condition.

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Inspection Procedure

1. Test drive the vehicle on a rough road to confirm the customer complaint.

2. If the rattle noise is confirmed to be coming from the glove box latch area, replace the glove box door assembly and adjust the hinges per the repair procedure below.

Repair Procedure

1. Record the radio presets.

2. Disconnect cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

Wait at LEAST 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

3. Remove the glove box door sub-assembly.

Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS),

A. Using a molding remover, detach the 6 clips, and remove the side panel.





B. Using a molding remover, remove the No.2 instrument cluster molding by detaching the 5 clips.





C. Remove the No.2 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly by detaching the 4 claws, then disconnecting the connector.





D. Remove the instrument panel finish panel end RH by detaching the 8 clips and claw with a molding remover.





E. Remove the lower instrument panel by detaching the clip and 2 claws with a molding remover.





F. Remove the front passenger side knee airbag assembly by removing the 3 bolts and then disconnecting the airbag connector.





G. Remove the glove compartment door assembly by removing the 5 screws, and disconnecting the wiring harness and connector clamps.





4. Adjust the NEW glove box assembly.

A. Loosen the 2 screws on the left side of the glove box as shown.





B. With the door closed, apply pressure on the door and the latch striker plate to take up any clearance between the latch and the hole. While applying pressure, tighten screws to specified torque.

Torque: 1.65N.m
(16.8 kgf.cm; 14.6 in.lbf)





C. Remove the 3 screws on the right side of the glove box as shown and remove the metal plate.





D. Open the door of the glove box and take off the plastic hinge cover.





E. Loosen the 2 screws on the right side of the glove box.





F. With the door closed, apply pressure on the door and latch striker plate to take up any clearance between the latch and the hole. Tighten screws to specified torque.

Torque: 1.65 N.m
(16.8 kgf.cm; 14.6 in.lbf)

5. Test the glove box door operation to ensure proper latching. If the door does NOT latch properly, loosen the screws and adjust.

Be sure to leave zero clearance between the latch and the hole to prevent reoccurrence of the rattle.

6. Reassemble in reverse order of disassembly.

7. Reattach the negative (-) battery cable.

8. Test drive the vehicle to confirm that the noise is gone.

9. Program the radio presets and set the clock.
