B1856
SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM: AIRBAG SYSTEM: B1855/63: Short in Rear Passenger Side - Side Squib Circuit
DTC B1855/63 - Short in Rear Passenger Side - Side Squib Circuit
DTC B1856/63 - Open in Rear Passenger Side - Side Squib Circuit
DTC B1857/63 - Short to GND in Rear Passenger Side - Side Squib Circuit
DTC B1858/63 - Short to B+ in Rear Passenger Side - Side Squib Circuit
DESCRIPTION
The rear passenger side - side squib circuit consists of the center airbag sensor assembly and the rear seat side airbag assembly RH.
The circuit instructs the SRS to deploy when deployment conditions are met.
These DTCs are recorded when a malfunction is detected in the rear passenger side - side squib circuit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT:
- Perform the simulation method by selecting the "check mode" (signal check) with Techstream Check Mode Procedure.
- After selecting the "check mode" (signal check), perform the simulation method by wiggling each connector of the airbag system or driving the vehicle on a city or rough road Check Mode Procedure.
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK REAR SEAT SIDE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY RH (REAR PASSENGER SIDE - SIDE SQUIB)
(a) Turn the engine switch off.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Disconnect the connector from the rear seat side airbag assembly RH.
(d) Connect SST (resistance 2.1 Ohms) to connector C.
CAUTION:
Never connect a tester to the rear seat side airbag assembly RH (rear passenger side - side squib) for measurement, as this may lead to a serious injury due to airbag deployment.
NOTICE:
- Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting.
- Insert straight SST into the terminals of the connector.
SST: 09843-18061
(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(f) Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(g) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(h) Turn the engine switch off.
(i) Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(j) Check the DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1855, B1856, B1857, B1858, or 63 is not output.
HINT: Codes other than DTC B1855, B1856, B1857, B1858, and 63 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
OK -- REPLACE REAR SEAT SIDE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY RH
NG -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK FLOOR WIRE NO. 2 (REAR PASSENGER SIDE - SIDE SQUIB CIRCUIT)
(a) Turn the engine switch off.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Disconnect SST (resistance 2.1 Ohms) from the floor wire No. 2.
(d) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly.
(e) Check the short to B+ in the circuit.
(1) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(2) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(3) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
(f) Check the open in the circuit.
(1) Turn the engine switch off.
(2) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(3) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
(g) Check the short to ground in the circuit.
(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
(h) Check the short in the circuit.
(1) Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector B Diagnosis System.
(2) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE NO. 2
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
(a) Restore the released activation prevention mechanism of connector B to the original condition.
(b) Connect the connectors to the rear seat side airbag assembly RH and the center airbag sensor assembly.
(c) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(d) Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(e) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(f) Turn the engine switch off.
(g) Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(h) Check the DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1855, B1856, B1857, B1858, or 63 is not output.
HINT: Codes other than DTC B1855, B1856, B1857, B1858, and 63 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
NG -- REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
OK -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
