Introduction

Customers may comment that there is a rubbing noise from the rear of the vehicle due to the rocker panel molding protector coming loose. The following repair procedures have been developed to reinstall the molding and correct this condition.

This TSIB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown.





Warranty Information

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.





Parts Information

NOTE
Replacing the rocker panel molding protector is necessary ONLY if damaged.

Repair Procedure

1. Remove damaged/loose rocker panel protector from the rocker panel molding.





2. Taking the mounting hole as a reference point measure 10 mm (0.39 in.) on both sides of the centerline and 25 mm (0.98 in.) deep. Scribe or draw lines on the rocker panel as shown.

NOTE

Reference mounting hole may either be square or round.





3. Drill 2 pilot holes 3 mm (0.12 in.) on the rocker panel at location shown.





4. Using utility knife cut rocker panel molding on lines drawn.

CAUTION

Use caution when using the utility knife.

5. Remove the cut piece.

6. Slide the clip onto the rocker panel molding in the area that was just removed so that the clip lines up with the mounting hole.

7. Attach the rocker panel protector to rocker panel molding using the new screw.
