Title
TCM CALIBRATION: ENHANCEMENT TO SHIFTING PERFORMANCE & SMOOTHNESS
Component
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Models
'08-'09 ES 350
INTRODUCTION:
To enhance shifting performance and smoothness during acceleration, the Transmission Control Module (TCM) calibration has been revised. In the event flash reprogramming the TCM does NOT completely resolve the issue, test drive the vehicle as per the instructions in the Repair Manual. If the condition persists the automatic transaxle assembly may also need to be replaced. Use the following repair procedure to address customer concerns.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Check for the Authorized Modifications Label affixed to the vehicle in the location shown in Figure 1. Confirm if the TCM calibration has been updated. If the calibration ID listed is NOT the latest TCM calibration - go to step 2.
2. Flash reprogram the TCM.
NOTE
- The GR8 Battery Diagnostic Station MUST be used in Power Supply Mode to maintain battery voltage at 13.5 volts while flash reprogramming the vehicle.
- For details on how to use the GR8 Battery Diagnostic Station, refer to the GR8 Battery Diagnostic Station Instruction Manual located on ETAS/TIS library > Tools > tools and equipment > GR8 Battery Diagnostic Station Instruction Manual.
Follow the procedures outlined in TSB2401, "Techstream ECU Flash Reprogramming Procedure," and flash the ECM (PCM) with the NEW calibration file update.
3. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature before test driving.
4. Test drive the vehicle to confirm proper vehicle operation and TCM initial learning.

- Shift flare
- Harsh Downshift on Reacceleration
- "Jerk" feeling on Reacceleration
Are any of the conditions above still present?
- YES - Remove and replace the automatic transaxle assembly w/torque converter.
NOTE
When the automatic transaxle is replaced, the transaxle compensation code MUST be input into the TCM. After the automatic transaxle is reinstalled, the QR code label will be positioned where the code cannot be read. Record the transaxle compensation code BEFORE reinstalling the automatic transaxle.
