INSTRUMENT PANEL: INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD: REMOVAL
REMOVAL
1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT
HINT: All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the chart below.
2. SET RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY TO SHIPMENT MODE
(a) Take out all discs and tape.
NOTICE:
If the discs or tape cannot be taken out, do not attempt to take them out forcibly. Send the unit to a repair shop.
(b) Turn the power switch OFF.
(c) While simultaneously pressing the "SEEK UP" and "DISC" switches, turn the power switch ON (ACC).
HINT: The CD loading door indicator light blinks during mode setting and it remains lit after the setting is completed.
(d) Turn the power switch OFF.
3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.
4. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH Removal

6. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH Removal
7. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH Removal
8. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER Removal
9. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER Removal
10. REMOVE STEERING PAD Removal
11. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Removal
12. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER Removal
13. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER Removal
14. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH STEERING SENSOR Removal
15. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY Removal
16. REMOVE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY Removal
17. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH
(a) Using a clip remover, disengage the claws and remove the front console upper panel garnish.
HINT: Tape the clip remover tip before use.
18. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY
(a) Turn the shift lever knob in the direction indicated by the arrow and remove it.
(b) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 9 clips.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
(c) Remove the console upper panel assembly and then disconnect the connector.
19. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
(a) Remove the screw.
(b) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 3 clips and 3 claws.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
(c) Remove the instrument panel finish panel end RH.
20. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
(a) Remove the screw.
(b) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 clips and 3 claws.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
(c) Remove the instrument panel finish panel end LH.
21. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX PLATE
(a) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 clips.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
(b) Remove the console box plate and then disconnect the connector.
22. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 clips and remove the console box register register assembly.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
23. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and 2 screws.
(b) Remove the console box assembly and then disconnect the connector.
24. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 5 clips.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
(b) Remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly and then disconnect the connector.
25. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 4 screws.
(b) Disconnect the connector and remove the combination meter assembly.
26. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL RH
(a) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 claws and 4 clips, and remove the instrument side panel RH.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
27. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH
(a) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 claws and 4 clips, and remove the instrument side panel LH.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
28. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 screws.
(b) Disengage the 3 claws.
(c) Remove the No. 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly and then disconnect the connectors.
29. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 3 clips and 5 claws.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
(b) Remove the hood lock control cable from the No. 1 instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly.
(c) Disconnect the connector.
(d) Remove the No. 1 instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly.
30. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY Removal
31. REMOVE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 screws.
(b) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 claws.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
(c) Remove the integration control and panel assembly and then disconnect the connector.
32. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 clips.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
(b) Disconnect the connector and clamp, and remove the No. 2 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.
33. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY Removal
34. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 4 screws.
(b) Disengage the 2 clips and claw.
(c) Disconnect the connector and clamp.
(d) Remove the glove compartment door sub-assembly.
35. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH Removal
36. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH Removal
37. REMOVE MULTI-DISPLAY WITH RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY Removal
38. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) w/ Navigation System:
Remove the navigation ECU.
(1) Remove the 3 bolts and navigation ECU.
(2) Disconnect the connectors.
(b) Remove the 4 nuts and center junction block RH and LH.
(c) Remove the 4 bolts, nut and 2 clips.
(d) Remove the 2 bolts from the passenger airbag.
(e) Disconnect the connectors and clamps.
(f) Disengage the 5 clips and remove the instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly.
