POWER STEERING: STEERING GEAR: REMOVAL
REMOVAL
CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing the steering column Service Precautions.
1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag working.
NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.
3. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS
4. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER Removal
5. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER Removal
6. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER PROTECTOR LOWER
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and the front suspension member protector lower.
7. DISCONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Secure the steering wheel with the seat belt in order to prevent rotation.
HINT: This operation is useful to prevent damage to the spiral cable.
(b) Loosen bolt (A) and remove bolt (B), then slide the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.
- Do not remove bolt (A).
- Do not disconnect the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the power steering link assembly.
(c) Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and the power steering link assembly.
(d) Disconnect the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the power steering link assembly.
8. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END LH
(a) Remove the clip and the castle nut.
(b) Using SST, disconnect the tie rod end LH from the steering knuckle.
SST: 09628-00011
- Hang SST with a wire or equivalent to prevent it from falling.
- Do not damage the front disc brake dust cover.
- Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
- Do not damage the steering knuckle.
9. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END RH
HINT: Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.
10. REMOVE POWER STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 clamps to disconnect the wire harness from the bracket.
(b) Disconnect 2 connectors (A) and (B) from the power steering link assembly.
(c) Release the lock of connector (C) and disconnect connector (C) from the power steering link assembly.
(d) Remove the 2 bolts, 2 washers, 2 nuts, and power steering link assembly from the front suspension crossmember.
