AXLE: REAR AXLE HUB: REMOVAL
REMOVAL
CAUTION:
When the brake caliper is removed from the brake disc, do not start the hybrid system. If the hybrid system is started, the brake fluid pressure may increase.
1. TURN POWER SWITCH OFF
(a) Turn the power switch OFF, and check that the "READY" indicator turns off.
2. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
3. DISCONNECT LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET Removal
4. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT
(a) Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the axle shaft nut.
SST: 09930-00010
NOTICE:
Release the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the screw of the drive shaft may be damaged.
(b) While applying the brakes, remove the rear axle shaft nut.
5. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Removal
6. REMOVE REAR DISC Disassembly
7. REMOVE REAR SPEED SENSOR Removal
8. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING Disassembly
9. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING Disassembly
10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET Disassembly
11. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Disassembly
12. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Disassembly
13. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER
14. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE ANCHOR BLOCK
(a) Remove the 2 nuts and the parking brake anchor block from the rear axle carrier.
15. REMOVE REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the nut from the rear upper control arm.
(b) Using SST, remove the rear upper control arm from the rear axle carrier.

- Pay careful attention not to damage the rear axle carrier because it is made of aluminum and may be damaged easily.
- Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
- Make sure that SST is securely set to the rear axle carrier spacer.
- If the rear axle carrier spacer has come off, replace the rear axle carrier with a new one.
- Make sure that the string of SST is securely tied to the vehicle.
16. REMOVE REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Jack up the rear axle so that the bolt on the rear upper No. 1 control arm can be removed.
HINT: Place a wooden block between the jack and rear axle carrier to prevent damage to the rear axle carrier.
(b) Remove the bolt, washer and nut, and the rear upper No. 1 control arm from the rear axle carrier.
17. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the bolt and nut, and separate the rear suspension arm from the rear axle carrier.
NOTICE:
Turn the bolt while holding the nut.
18. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the bolt and nut, and separate the rear No. 2 suspension arm from the rear axle carrier.
NOTICE:
Turn the bolt while holding the nut.
19. DISCONNECT TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the nut from the toe control link.
(b) Using SST, disconnect the toe control link from the rear axle carrier.

- Pay careful attention not to damage the rear axle carrier because it is made of aluminum and may be damaged easily.
- Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
- Make sure that SST is securely set to the rear axle carrier spacer.
- If the rear axle carrier spacer has come off, replace the rear axle carrier with a new one.
- Make sure that the string of SST is securely tied to the vehicle.
20. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a plastic-faced hammer, remove the drive shaft from the rear axle carrier.
(b) Remove the rear axle.
NOTICE:
- Be careful not to damage the boot.
- Use a wire or an equivalent to keep the rear drive shaft from hanging down.
21. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR
(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the bearing dust deflector from the rear axle carrier.
22. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY
(a) Hold the axle hub and bearing in a vise between aluminum plates.
NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the vise.
(b) Remove the 4 bolts and axle hub and bearing from the rear axle carrier.
