A760H AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY: INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Using a vernier caliper and a straightedge, measure dimension A between the transmission fitting surface of the engine *1 and the converter fitting surface of the drive plate *2. (#)

(b) Aligning the matchmarks on the transmission case and torque converter, engage the splines of the input shaft and turbine runner.

HINT
Turn the torque converter approximately 180°.

(d) Turn the torque converter and align the matchmarks on the torque converter and transmission case to engage the key of the oil pump drive gear into the slot on the torque converter.

NOTICE:
Do not push on the torque converter when aligning the matchmarks.

(e) Using a vernier caliper and a straightedge, measure dimension B shown in the illustration and check that B is greater than A (measured in step (#)).

Standard:

A + 1 mm (0.03937 in.) or more

2. INSTALL TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER

(a) Install 4 new O-rings to the spacer.

(b) Install the transmission oil cooler and spacer to the automatic transmission assembly with the 3 bolts.

Torque : 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf)

3. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER LH

(a) Install the transmission control shaft to the neutral start switch assembly with the nut.

Torque : 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 ft-lbf)

4. INSTALL TRANSFER DYNAMIC DAMPER

(a) Install the transfer dynamic damper to the automatic transmission assembly with the 2 bolts.

Torque : 52 Nm (530 kgf-cm, 38 ft-lbf)

5. INSTALL ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR REAR NO. 1

(a) Install the engine mounting insulator rear No. 1 to the automatic transmission assembly with the 3 bolts.

Torque : 60 Nm (612 kgf-cm, 44 ft-lbf)

(b) Install the engine rear mounting member to the engine mounting insulator rear No. 1 with the 3 bolts.

Torque : 38 Nm (380 kgf-cm, 28 ft-lbf)

6. INSTALL AUTOMATIC W/TRANSFER TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

(a) Confirm that 2 knock pins are on the transmission fitting surface of the engine block before transmission installation.

(b) Apply clutch spline grease to the round of the crankshaft contact surface with the torque converter centerpiece.

Clutch spline grease:

Toyota Genuine Clutch Spline Grease or equivalent

Maximum amount:

About 1 g (0.0353 oz.)

(c) Install the automatic transmission assembly to the engine with the 9 bolts.

Bolt A and B - Torque : 71 Nm (724 kgf-cm, 52 ft-lbf)

Bolt C - Torque : 37 Nm (377 kgf-cm, 27 ft-lbf)

HINT
Make sure that the mark is as shown in the illustration.

7. INSTALL WATER BY-PASS HOSE

(a) Install the 2 water by-pass hoses to the automatic transmission assembly.

(b) Install the water by-pass hose clamp with the bolt.

Torque : 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf)

8. INSTALL WIRE HARNESS

(a) Install the wire harness clamps to the automatic transmission assembly with the 4 bolts.

Torque : 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf)

9. INSTALL CONNECTOR

(a) Tilt down the automatic transmission assembly.

(b) Connect the neutral start switch connector, transmission wire connector and 2 transmission revolution sensor connectors.

HINT
Push up the lever until the claw of the transmission wire connector (AT) makes a connection sound.

10. INSTALL ENGINE REAR MOUNTING MEMBER

(a) Install the engine rear mounting member to the body with the 4 bolts.

Torque : 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft-lbf)

11. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Temporarily tighten the floor shift gear shifting rod sub-assembly with the nut.

12. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE NO. 1 SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Install the exhaust pipe No. 1 support bracket sub-assembly to the automatic transmission assembly with the 2 bolts.

Torque : 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf)

13. INSTALL DRIVE PLATE & TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT

(a) Install the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.

Torque : 41 Nm (418 kgf-cm, 30 ft-lbf)

HINT
Install the black colored bolt first, and then the silver colored 5 bolts.
