Windshield Deicer Does Not Operate

DESCRIPTION

Pressing the windshield deicer switch with the engine switch on (IG) causes the indicator to come on and the system to be activated. After approximately 15 minutes, the system automatically stops and the indicator goes off.

NOTICE:
* Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.
* The windshield deicer system uses AVC-LAN and BEAN communication. First, confirm that there is no malfunction in the AVC-LAN and BEAN communication systems. Refer to the How to Proceed with Troubleshooting procedure Windshield Deicer System.
PROCEDURE

1. CHECK AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

(a) Check the air conditioning system.

OK:

The air conditioning system operates normally.

NG -- GO TO AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (DEICER RELAY)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Active Test.

(e) Perform the Active Test according to the display on the Techstream.

Air Conditioner





OK:

The windshield deicer operates normally.

NG -- INSPECT DEICER RELAY
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY

(a) Replace the multi-display Removal for models with Navigation System, Removal for models without Navigation System).

(b) Press the windshield deicer switch.

(c) Check that the windshield deicer operates.

OK:

The windshield deicer operates normally.

NG -- REPLACE A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY Removal

OK -- END (MULTI-DISPLAY WAS DEFECTIVE)

4. INSPECT DEICER RELAY

(a) Remove the DEICER relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:





NG -- REPLACE DEICER RELAY
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DEICER RELAY - BATTERY)

(a) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard voltage:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DEICER RELAY - A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY)

(a) Disconnect the K52 A/C amplifier assembly connector.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. INSPECT A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY

(a) Install the DEICER relay to the No. 2 engine room relay block.





(b) Reconnect the K52 A/C amplifier assembly connector.

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard voltage:





NG -- REPLACE A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.

8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DEICER RELAY - WINDSHIELD DEICER)

(a) Remove the DEICER relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block.





(b) Disconnect the windshield deicer connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

9. INSPECT WINDSHIELD GLASS (WINDSHIELD DEICER WIRE)

(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE WINDSHIELD DEICER WIRE, OR REPLACE WINDSHIELD GLASS

OK -- REPLACE A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY Removal
