STEERING COLUMN: STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column): REMOVAL

CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing Service Precautions.

1. PRECAUTION

NOTICE:
Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing Steering System.

2. PRECAUTION (w/ Navigation System)

NOTICE:
After the power switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the power switch off, make sure to wait at least 60 seconds before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

3. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

(a) Disable the auto away/return function by changing the customize parameter Programming and Relearning.

NOTICE:
Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the auto away/return function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing this operation.

HINT
Performing the above operation disables the auto away/return function when the power switch is turned off.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly.

(c) Turn the power switch off.

(d) Open the front luggage compartment trim cover and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.





CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

5. REMOVE STEERING PAD

Refer to the instructions for Removal of the steering pad Removal.

6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Removal

7. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING COLUMN COVER

(a) Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 claws to remove the lower No. 2 steering column cover.

HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

8. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER

NOTICE:
Removing the lower steering column cover in the incorrect order will cause the parts to break.

(a) Push the right and left sides of the lower steering column cover to disengage the 4 claws.





(b) Insert fingers into the opening of the lower steering column cover to disengage the 2 claws.





HINT
Spread the claws to disengage them.

(c) Using a screwdriver, insert the tip into each service hole to disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover as shown in the illustration.

9. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER

(a) w/ Driver Monitor Camera:





(1) Disconnect the driver monitor camera connector.

(b) Disengage the 4 clips and 2 guides to separate the instrument panel cluster finish panel from the upper steering column cover.





(c) Disengage the 2 claws and 2 pins to remove the upper steering column cover.





10. REMOVE DRIVER MONITOR CAMERA (w/ Driver Monitor Camera) Removal

11. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.

(b) Using pliers, expand the clamp.

(c) While holding the clamp expanded, raise the claw using a screwdriver to disengage it, and then remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.

12. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT ASSEMBLY

Refer to the instructions for Removal of the brake pedal support assembly Removal.

13. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

14. REMOVE STEERING POST ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the connectors and disengage the wire harness clamps from the steering post assembly.

(b) Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and steering post assembly.





15. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering column assembly.

(b) Remove the bolt and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.

16. REMOVE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU

(a) Remove the nut and multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU from the steering column assembly.
