SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM: AIRBAG SYSTEM: B19A5/A6-B19A8/A6: Short in Front Active Headrest Squib LH Circuit

B19A5/A6 - Short in Front Active Headrest Squib LH Circuit
B19A6/A6 - Open in Front Active Headrest Squib LH Circuit
B19A7/A6 - Short to GRD in Front Active Headrest Squib LH Circuit
B19A8/A6 - Short to B+ in Front Active Headrest Squib LH Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The front active headrest squib LH circuit consists of the center airbag sensor and the active headrest inflator LH.

The circuit instructs the SRS to deploy when deployment conditions are met.

These DTCs are recorded when a malfunction is detected in the front active headrest squib LH circuit.

HINT
For vehicles not equipped with active headrest inflators:

Vehicles that are not equipped with active headrest inflators still contain active headrest inflator circuits and use substitution parts in replace of the active headrest inflators. If a malfunction occurs in this active headrest inflator circuit, DTC B19A5, B19A6, B19A7 or B19A8 is stored.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
* w/ Navigation System (for HDD):
After the power switch is turned OFF, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the power switch OFF, be sure to wait for the time specified in the following table before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

Waiting Time before Disconnecting Cable from Negative (-) Battery Terminal:

* When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.

HINT
* Perform the simulation method by selecting "check mode" (signal check) with the Techstream Check Mode Procedure.
* After selecting the "check mode" (signal check), perform the simulation method by wiggling each connector of the airbag system or driving the vehicle on various types of roads Diagnosis System.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK ACTIVE HEADREST INFLATOR LH (FRONT ACTIVE HEADREST SQUIB LH)

(a) Turn the power switch OFF.

(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Disconnect the connector from the active headrest inflator LH.

(d) Connect the red wire side of SST (resistance: 2.1 Ohms) to connector E.

CAUTION:
Never connect a tester to the active headrest inflator LH (front active headrest squib LH) for measurement, as this may lead to a serious injury due to airbag deployment.

NOTICE:
* Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting SST.
* Insert SST straight into the terminals of the connector.

SST : 09843-18061

(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(f) Turn the power switch ON (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(g) Clear the DTCs DTC Check / Clear.

(h) Turn the power switch OFF.

(i) Turn the power switch ON (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(j) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.

OK:

DTC B19A5, B19A6, B19A7, B19A8 or A6 is not output.

HINT
Codes other than DTC B19A5, B19A6, B19A7, B19A8 and A6 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

OK -- REPLACE ACTIVE HEADREST INFLATOR LH Removal

2. CHECK CONNECTOR

(a) Turn the power switch OFF.

(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Disconnect SST from connector E.

(d) Check that the No. 2 floor wire connector (on the active headrest inflator LH side) is not damaged.

OK:

The lock button is not disengaged, or the claw of the lock is not damaged or deformed.

NG -- REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK FRONT ACTIVE HEADREST SQUIB LH CIRCUIT

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the power switch ON (IG).

(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard voltage:

(e) Turn the power switch OFF.

(f) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(g) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

(h) Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector B Diagnosis System.

(i) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:
