L110F HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL: HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM: P0710-855,P0712-856,P0713-857: Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit
P0713-857 - Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit High Input

DESCRIPTION

- The transmission fluid temperature sensor, which is installed in the valve body, is used to detect the fluid temperature of the transmission fluid pressure control circuit. The sensor signal is used by the hybrid vehicle control ECU to determine transmission fluid temperature.

- Characteristics of the thermistor resistance (reference values) are as follows.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

These DTCs indicate an open or short in the transmission fluid temperature sensor circuit. The transmission fluid temperature sensor converts the transmission fluid temperature to an electrical resistance value. Based on the resistance, the hybrid vehicle control ECU determines the transmission fluid temperature. The hybrid vehicle control ECU also detects an open or short in the transmission fluid temperature circuit based on the resistance. If the resistance value of the transmission fluid temperature sensor is outside a specified range, the hybrid vehicle control ECU interprets this as a fault in the transmission fluid sensor or wiring. The hybrid vehicle control ECU will turn on the MIL and store a DTC.

HINT
The transmission fluid temperature can be checked using an OBD II scan tool, or the Techstream.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT
Read the freeze frame data using the Techstream. In the freeze frame data, some information is recorded about the engine conditions at the moment a malfunction occurred. This information can be helpful when troubleshooting.

PROCEDURE

1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (T/M OIL TEMPERATURE)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / T/M Oil Temperature.

(d) Read the data list.

OK:

NG -- CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR)
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS

(a) Check for intermittent problems Check For Intermittent Problems.

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA

OK -- REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU Components

3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR)

(a) Check the connections of the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors.

OK:

The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

NG -- CONNECT SECURELY
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK TRANSMISSION WIRE (TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMPERATURE SENSOR)

(a) Turn the power switch off.

(b) Disconnect connectors E55 and A74 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

(d) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(e) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard voltage:

NOTICE:
Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

(f) Turn the power switch off.

(g) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

NG -- CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (TRANSMISSION WIRE CONNECTOR)
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS

(a) Check for intermittent problems Check For Intermittent Problems.

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA

OK -- REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU Components

6. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (TRANSMISSION WIRE CONNECTOR)

(a) Check the connection of the transmission wire connector.

OK:

The connector is connected securely and there are no contact problems.

NG -- CONNECT SECURELY
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU)

(a) Disconnect the transmission wire connector.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard voltage:

NOTICE:
Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

(d) Turn the power switch off.

(e) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance (Check for open):

Standard resistance (Check for short):

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

OK -- REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE Components
