P306A-123 - Hybrid Battery Temperature Sensor Range/Performance Stuck "B"

DESCRIPTION

Refer to the description for DTC P0A9D-123 P00C35.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

If the temperature indicated by the battery temperature sensor is lower than the standard level (open), or is higher than the standard level (short), the battery smart unit interprets this as a sensor malfunction. If the battery smart unit detects that the HV battery temperature is out of the normal range or its value is abnormal, the hybrid vehicle control ECU illuminates the MIL and sets a DTC.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

CAUTION:
- Before inspecting the high-voltage system, take safety precautions such as wearing insulated gloves and removing the service plug grip to prevent electrical shocks. After removing the service plug grip, put it in your pocket to prevent other technicians from accidentally reconnecting it while you are working on the high-voltage system.
- After disconnecting the service plug grip, wait for at least 10 minutes before touching any of the high-voltage connectors or terminals. After waiting for 10 minutes, check the voltage at the terminals in the inspection point in the inverter with converter assembly. The voltage should be 0 V before beginning work.
HINT
Waiting for at least 10 minutes is required to discharge the high-voltage capacitor inside the inverter with converter assembly.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK FOR DTCS (DTC P0A1F-123 IS OUTPUT)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.

(d) Check if DTCs are output.

Result

B -- GO TO DTC CHART (P0A1F-123) Hybrid Battery System
A -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR) P00C35

NG -- CONNECT SECURELY
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (BATTERY SMART UNIT) P00C35

NG -- CONNECT SECURELY
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK HV BATTERY (BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR)

CAUTION:
Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

(a) Place the HV battery in the vehicle so that measurements can be made at the battery smart unit connector.

NOTICE:
Make sure all the covers are installed to the HV battery when placing it in the vehicle, and then remove the covers again after the HV battery is in place.

HINT
- Follow the installation procedures to the point where the HV battery is set in the vehicle Installation.
- Do not install the service plug grip.

(b) Reconnect all the connectors that were disconnected when the HV battery was removed.

(c) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(d) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(e) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Temp of Batt TB 1 to 6.

HINT
"Temp of Batt TB 1 to 6" in the Data List represents battery temperature sensors 0 to 5.

(f) Read the data list.

HINT
- Record the 6 displayed "Temp of Batt TB" values (1 to 6) in order to compare the data list values with the values to be actually measured at connector z87 of the battery smart unit.
- If the power switch is turned on (IG) with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be set. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream Hybrid Battery System.

(g) Disconnect the z87 battery smart unit connector.

(h) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance (Battery temperature sensor 0):

Standard Resistance (Battery temperature sensor 1):

Standard Resistance (Battery temperature sensor 2):

Standard Resistance (Battery temperature sensor 3):

Standard Resistance (Battery temperature sensor 4):

Standard Resistance (Battery temperature sensor 5):

NOTICE:
If time passes after confirming the temperatures in the data list, the HV battery internal temperature may change.

(i) Compare the recorded "Temp of Batt TB" values and the actual measured values.

OK:

There is almost no difference between the recorded "Temp of Batt TB" values and the actual measured values.

NG -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT Removal

OK -- REPLACE HV BATTERY Removal
