Trunk / Liftgate: Description and Operation

ENGINE HOOD / DOOR: POWER TRUNK LID SYSTEM: SYSTEM DIAGRAM

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

1. GENERAL

* The luggage compartment door can be opened by pressing the luggage door opening switch of the instrument panel, the luggage compartment door opener switch of the rear license garnish or the LUGGAGE switch of the key.

* In addition, a luggage compartment door closer switch is installed on the inner side of the luggage compartment door. By using this switch, the luggage compartment door can be closed automatically.

* The luggage closer motor (power trunk lid control ECU) is installed near the luggage compartment door hinge LH. The luggage closer motor (power trunk lid control ECU) opens and closes the luggage compartment door.

* This system is controlled by the luggage closer motor (power trunk lid control ECU).

2. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS

3. 2-STEP CLOSER OPERATION

In order to notify the user that the closer operation will begin and to prevent a person's fingers from being pinched, the closer operation stops momentarily after activation to provide time to move your hands away from the luggage compartment door (the system attempts to leave a space of 9 mm (0.354 in.) or more when stopping momentarily).

(a) The following operations are related to the 2-step closer operation:

(1) When the pawl switch (PAWL) turns off (the closer motor is in the half-latch position) or when the half-latch switch (HALF) turns off, the closer motor is activated.

HINT
There is a delay time from when the switch status is recognized until the closer motor is activated. The delay time is 500 milliseconds when the luggage compartment door is closed by hand and 10 milliseconds when a power trunk lid operation is performed. The delay time count is continuous until the closer motor activates.

(2) When the pawl switch (PAWL) turns from off to on (the transition from *1 to *2 in the illustration), there is a 1 second momentary stop.

(3) When the position switch (LOPN) turns off after the closer motor reactivates, the closer motor stops (close completion).

(4) If the pawl switch (PAWL) is on (off is skipped) and the half-latch switch (HALF) is off, the closer motor does not stop momentarily after activation and continues operating until the luggage compartment door is completely closed.

(5) If the luggage compartment door is closed during the delay time (the time before the pawl switch (PAWL) turns off after the pawl switch (PAWL) turns on and the half-latch switch turns off), there is a momentary stop when the pawl switch (PAWL) turns on after the closer motor activates.

(6) Any other operations not described above operate in the same way as during normal operation.
